I'm thinking about putting together a CD for my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. I have a few songs that are kind of "our songs", but I also wanted to put some really cheesy songs on it too.

Any suggestions?

The Rose by Bette Midler.

I don't know how they got the Napoleon Dynamite guy to do that. I was in awe.

Also, "it's all coming back to me now" by what'ser face. Celine Dion.

Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole's medley of "What a Wonderful World" and "Somewhere over the Rainbow" is great. Not cheesy, but good for a mix.

I'm not sure if they qualify as cheesy, but here are a few.

Bryan Adams: (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
Elton John: Your Song
Etta James: At Last
Heatwave: Always and Forever
Des'Ree: Kissing You

Its Your Love by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill is kind of cheesy.

Could You, Would You, Ain't You Gonna, If I Asked You Would You Wanna Be My Baby Tonight by John Michael Montgomery is really cheesey (probabaly only called Be My Baby Tonight, but whatever).

Hmm... S'all..

And along those lines, these classics from Olivia Newton-John:

"I Honestly Love You"

and

"Just call me angel
of the morning, angel
Just touch my cheek
before you leave me,
baby..."

[Edit: not power ballads, more a'la "Endless Love." And twinky, you shouldn't be listening to cheesy love songs. You should be doing something nice and healthy for a young man, like eating graham crackers. And hiking up mountains.]

You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off of you
You'd be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much... [Big Grin]

Also, "Can't Help Falling in Love," by Elvis.

Hmmm.... those were both on a Valentine's album I made last year...

Ben Folds' "The Luckiest" is an awesome love song. One of my favourites.

I don’t get many things right the first time
In fact, I am told that a lot
Now I know all the wrong turns, the stumbles and falls
Brought me here

...makes an interesting contrast with what I'm listening to now ("Passive," A Perfect Circle). Heh.

"Magic" (Ben Folds again, but this time Ben Folds Five)... and also, "Galapagos," by the Smashing Pumpkins. Though really, the former is marginally cheesy while the latter is just plain good.

Edit: CT, I'm going back to NZ soon and will be doing plenty of hiking. Does that make you feel better? [Smile]

These all came from a disc a former flame gave me, I don't have artist info on most but I'm pretty sure they're all country or country-rock cause that's what he likes:

"Dreamweaver" was an awesome call, but I think Annie's "You Light Up My Life" knocked the last ball out of the park.

OK, Dreamweaver wins the cheasiest award. I don't know how I forgot it, but when Mike Meyers decides to use a song as the epitome of cheesy love, you've got good authority.

There is no contest. This cheesy offering still makes me run and hide:

Muskrat, muskrat candlelight
Doin' the town and doin' it right
In the evenin'
It's pretty pleasin'

Muskrat Susie, Muskrat Sam
Do the jitterbug out in muskrat land
And they shimmy
And Sammy's so skinny

Until now, I had never even thought of the possiblity that Dreamweaver might be a love song. And I still don't see how the either the lyrics or the music would conjure up that image.

Ever wonder what triggered the ever declining birthrate amongst American-born women?

Not that cheesy, but Alanis Morrissette's "Head over Feet" is one of my favourites.
David Gray "This year's love" or "Please Forgive Me" are both pretty cheesy (but I like them anyway).
Oh, and anything by John Denver has just got to be cheesy (but I like many of his songs anyway, so there [Razz] )

Ketchupqueen, that's another Captain and Tenille song. We could pretty much just list all of their songs and be pretty damn sure that they would qualify for cheesy. Here's another by C. and T.:

Do that to me one more time
Once is never enough with a man like you
Do that to me one more time
I can never get enough of a man like you
Whoa-oh-oh, kiss me like you just did
Oh, baby, do that to me once again

Why do birds suddenly appear,
Everytime you are near?
Just like me, they want to be
Close to you.

On the day that you were born
The angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true!
So they sprinkled goldust in your hair
And starlight to go in your eyes of blue!

And thats why
All the girls in town
follow you when your around.
Just like me
They want to be
Close to you.

Laaaaaaa ah ah ah aaaaaaaah
Close to you.

OK, the cheesiest love song, literally, is from Jimmy Buffet:

"Tried to amend my carnivorous habits
Made it nearly seventy days
Losin’ weight without speed, eatin’ sunflower seeds
Drinkin’ lots of carrot juice and soakin’ up rays

But at night I’d had these wonderful dreams
Some kind of sensuous treat
Not zuchinni, fettucini or bulghar wheat
But a big warm bun and a huge hunk of meat

Chorus:
Cheeseburger in paradise (paradise)
Heaven on earth with an onion slice (paradise)
Not too particular not too precise (paradise)
I’m just a cheeseburger in paradise"

"Cheeseburger in Paradise"

Captain & Tenille are great! They do a disco fantasy version of "Happy Together" complete with stampeding horse effects.

Actually, I once made a CD of cover versions of "Happy Together." I had a punk version, a Mel Torme lounge version, an instrumental bluegrass rendition, a jazz version, reggae, acapella, and of course Captain & Tenille. My roommates thought I was off my rocker. I thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever done.

Oh yeah, also add "Happy Together" by the Turtles.
