Has anyone seen this yet, and is it really as amazing as it looks? It doesn't seem to be opening in my area ...

Wow, it really looks cool! I've seen both "Ghost in the shell" movies and they were much better than I had expected. As my brother said, I was waiting to see fast paced action and almost nothing else and instead I got a very interesting story! [Big Grin] Can't wait to see this one - sometime in the distant future... [Smile]

And oh, I have problems with the yahoo site... Grr....

I had some problems with Ghost in the Shell 2. Sure there was some cool dialogue and cool ideas. But nothing we haven't seen before. And the story just seemed to go nowhere. I enjoyed it, but I was dissapointed.

I just saw it this weekend. Greatuse of CG for the Landmates, etc... the charachter shading was a bit off (it bugged me), and the plot was typical anime-style "we're reavling major plot points through long-winded diaolgue between fight scenes"... yah, it was typical. Shut you brain off, but enjoy the eye candy.

I've seen the original AND this new one. It's nice to have contacts in the pirate world. [Wink] Unfortunatly it was in Japanese with English subtitles...I'm more of a fan of dubbing so I can pay attention more closely to the story and to the visuals. And with a movie like this you need that.

As for the amazing part.... well. This new "Appleseed" happens before the first movie, telling the story of how our two heros came to live in Olympus. But by the end of the movie it seems to race ahead in time to after the events in the first movie. That or it's just a completely differnent tale. I've never read the "Appleseed" manga myself, so I don't know which movie is closer to the books.

In the first movie they never did tell us what Appleseed stands for... I just assumed it ment the city of Olympus itself, a foundation seed for a new civilization. This new movie gives us a much more detailed explaination.

This new movie is done with computers like "Final Fantasy, the Spirits Within". But the characters in "Appleseed" are done so they look like they are painted. This was to both save time rendering and also give it that hand drawn anime feel.

I actually didn't like that as much as I thought I would....when they moved, while fluid, didn't seem real or human. The dialogue was a little weak in places too. In the end this new "Appleseed" wasn't as good as "Final Fantasy" (but then again they spent like 5 years on FF).

I'd definatly would watch it again if it came to the theaters, but I don't think I would own it.
