I don't have any. I want to see several of those, but if I don't get around to seeing them this year, I won't be sad.

Edit: I take it back. I must see Serenity this year.

Serenity, definitely. And Goblet of Fire, but that's only a must-see because I am heavily involved in the HP fandom, and not because I expect it to be a really great movie. I do expect to enjoy it, though. [Smile]

I will also be seeing H2G2, and possibly Star Wars. Haven't decided yet on the latter, though I suspect I will give in and go.

Am I thinking too much?

Is seeing a list of "must-see" movies done for a different reason than entertainment? Like, doesn't the purpose become more to "collect" the movie and even possess the franchise? Do you really enjoy the movie half as much as enjoy having seen it?

One of the ladies in my department took last week off and saw 19 movies at the Sundance Film Festival. That's two or three movies a night for about seven days. She came in about halfway through the week and looked exhausted. I really think she was doing it more to have a sense of possession of the festival, and not as much to see a bunch of interesting films.

I think I go to see some movies to own them and set them aside. They are highly anticipated, people are talking about them, and they really do seem "must-see." So I go see them, and after that, all the buzz doesn't get me agitated anymore. After the stress of waiting for tickets and all the anticipation, the websites, the trailers, and the talk, watching the movie is anticlimactic. But once I've seen it, I can set it aside and not worry about it anymore.

Most movies don't even become entertainment until I rent them and watch them because I want to watch a movie that evening.

Harry Potter

Everything else is optional, although the chances are very high that I will see Hitchiker's, if it's good. Harry Potter is the only that I will whether it is good or not.

I just don't get why they didn't go ahead and use Gordon Sumner as Constantine. He's not *that* old. I mean, look at Sean Connery.

Hey, who needs good acting or good plots when you've got light sabres!

Lucas obviously understands this, each movie he increases the amount of light sabres we get to see.

I expect with the third episode, Lucas will get rid of useless attempts at character development and make the entire thing one huge light sabre battle with a few million people partaking. It will be interrupted only for HIL-LARIOUS moments of comedy from Jar-jar and the flamboyantly gay android.

Side note: Ghost in the shell is a movie? i'll have to get my hands on that.

Edit: just reserved GitS and GitS2 from my library, i'll have the first next week, hopefully, and they are waiting on the second one (they ordered it but it hasn't come in yet), but i'm 31st on the list [Cry]

the increase of light saber duels only worked while increasing the quality of the choreography. The Duel of the Fates was awesome (thank you, Ray Park) but it appears that we won't have anything quite that cool again, unless Park got asked back.

Still holding out hope that we weill see a return to the badass Kenobi of episode 1 rather than the whiny worrywort that gets taken down by the guy who was the basis for all the stormtroopers ( I mean, are there any worse shots in the galaxy? besides Sandpeople, I mean...) that episode 2 left us with. I forgot about Narnia. Of course I'll be seeing that.

And did they really make Indy 4? I remember hearing that they were talking about it, but somehow missed the news that it was a given. [Smile] I'll go if the reviews are good, otherwise I'll rent it.

Finally, I cannot believe I forgot about FFVII: Advent Children. Yup, will be seeing that, though I have to finish playing the game first. *wanders off to google for release dates*

Well, since Lime listed these:
quote:
Serenity
Batman Begins
Sin City
Goblet of Fire
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Indiana Jones 4
Any and all Pirates of the Carribean sequels
The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
King Kong
Howl's Moving Castle
Nausicaa

I guess that's probably my list, too. Though I may send him off to see Sin City with the guys, and stay home to watch A Walk on the Moon or Hidalgo. [Wink]

edited 'cause I have punctuation issues *sigh*

I just saw Les Choristes, the french film nominated for an Oscar.

I LOVED it. It was... oh... lovely! Probably best movie I've seen this year (2004, I mean).

If you can find a theatre showing it, see it.

Batman Begins is seriously shaping up to be a comic book movie that one can actually take seriously. When you first see the trailers, you don't even know it's Batman, you just think, "Wow, this looks pretty interesting," and then WHAM! Batman.

Very well done. Not like the others.

Well the only movie I really care about is the
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. A quick question whats all the fuss with Serenity about? Is that the movie based on the canceled TV show? I've never seen the show (I lived in Japan for 4 years).

He flew around the world and turned back time by reversing the rotation of the earth. That's enough to consign Superman I to the trash heap of movie history. The scene is so bad that I keep forgetting about it and getting outraged all over again when I remember it.

In part two, which could have been great, the Kryptonians suddenly got teleportation, telekinises, and a cellophane throwing weapon of some kind.
