Eidos closed Ion Storm yesterday.

Ion Storm released two of my all-time favorite titles, Deux Ex and the Thief series, and I greatly fear Thief: Deadly Shadows will be the last of those phenomenal games.

In honor of Ion Storm's untimely passing, I present this eulogy.

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with Warren Spectre and the Ion Storm team. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Ion Storm team:

"You promised me Ion Storm, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?!"

Then the Ion Storm team replied, "The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when we carried you."

Amen.

Doesn't bother me one bit.
They already canned all the guys responsible for Thief, and most of the guys that worked on Deus Ex.

Things like this happen all the time... I know of it first-hand.

raventh - It's like your favorite band breaking up. The guys will probably go on to do other projects, other places, but there will never be another Ion Storm with Warren Spectre at the helm. [Frown]

I kinda know how you feel, since EA absorbed WestWood Studios. (They made RTS games, you probably know of Command & Conquer.)

Eh, I never really got into any of their games. I got Deus Ex for free in PC Gamer last year. Still trying to find time to play it.

Let's not forget Daikatana though! That game was awesome!

If Warren wasn't talking non-stop at a breakneck pace, it wasn't really him.

I've met him a couple times--nice guy, brilliant thinker and designer, extremely voluble.

I thought this was about Star Trek being cancelled. Andrew's pretty bummed out. I'm containing my glee because I love him, but I don't know how much longer I can keep it inside.
