So last night we decided to sit down and watch the Napoleon Dynamite DVD we'd bought the week before. We'd both seen it in theaters and enjoyed it immensely so we were looking forward to it. Great the second time around, but something else that impressed me was the fact that the movie gave my home theater (recently upgraded center channel) quite a workout. Surprisingly this movie caused my stereo to sound the best it ever had. I had also turned up the subwoofer 2 levels, and i wonder if that had anything to do with it. I was just surprised that Napoleon Dynamite could make everything work so hard. Rear channels were used constantly for music and surround effects, and yea, it was great. I am hoping that it was the upgrading that made the difference and i have many more impressive experiences to come in my already existing DVD collection.

There is no hidden meaning. It's not something you have to be smart to understand. You just have to take it for what it is. You can't tell me there was no time in that movie that you didn't think was at least smirk-worthy.

I'm with adam on this. I mean, yes, there were a few times that were definitely smirk-worthy (like when Napoleon, erm...slapped Kip) but I didn't find it the Uproariously Funny Best Movie Ever that others find it to be.

It was an Mtv production, but it's still sort of surprising given the low budget look of the film. I enjoyed the film quite a bit. It nicely captures the slower pace of life in the intermountain west.

We watched it for the first time last night. Honestly...I wasn't impressed, sorry. I thought it was unbearably slow and while it did have funny parts to it, it was just so unreal that I couldn't get into it. I mean, sure, you meet kids who are like this, but you'd have to live in outer Mongolia to have only 80's era clothing to wear. Or a really sloooooow low budget movie.
It portrayed life in a small town as a dumpster of idiots. I guess I just didn't get it.

As someone who grew up in Southern Idaho in the 90s, I vouch for the historical accuracy of this movie.
