I thought perhaps that -- but can't find confirmation. And it ISN'T on some that I know are for sure paperbacks. So I don't know..

Ha! I found it. http://www.library.uiuc.edu/techserv/cpac/cpacpolicies/isbn.htm ISBN section. Gives very detailed information on treating ISBN’s. Only qualify "pbk." if the library has other hard bound copies. If paperback is the only book the library has, don’t use the qualifier.

Ah - thank you Jay! So basically, it is saying if I have a hard-bound copy AND a paperback copy of the same book in my library, then I should use "pbk" to designate the paperback one, since they share the ISBN? In that case, I need to really clean up this data, because most of these (in our church library) are the "only" copies, so they don't need the pbk designation in our Access database...
