Aselin Debison has a supremely clear voice. It reminds me of the purity contained in two objects: flutes and vodka. But there is no toxic quality to her, so only the flute category applies. So sweet and pure is her voice that it can grind the mind after a while, and after a while, one -- a mere human not so enlighted as she -- can get weary. An example of this. My favorite part in the medley, Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What a Wonderful World, is around 2 minutes and a half into the whole experience.

This line occurs only once in the entire work, and she delivers it with a giggle: "The brightness of day / I like the dark." The first half of this statement is, of course, the sort of statement that permeates this work. It is a very happy one. And the line about "the dark" is also delieved quite happily in and of itself.

Yet it resonated with me in a way that the rest did not.

"Clubbed to Death," from the Matrix soundtrack, is a different experience, yet an interesting one as well. The first 25 seconds devote themselves to a classical expression. The violens are heavy. Nothing fancy. Almost melodramatic. Almost. It is a short evocation of feeling; what type of feeling depends on the listener, but to myself it sounded like sorrow, like sitting on a bench, watching a hunter shoot birds out of the sky.

Then...the mood shifts and it is in this flip that the maximum emotional effect comes. The beat itself is not bad per se (to use a little Latin), and it is quite possible to embrace your body in its flow. But to be honest, I prefer the classical section, particularly because of the beauty that one transition contains.

Hellsing, for the uninitated, is an 12-episode anime focusing on the exploits of a vampire dubbed "Alucard," "Dracula" spelt backwards (and with the 'D' uncapitilzed ). The opening theme to it, once I first started watching, jared on me; it was too out there, and too funky for my normal, mild tastes.

I have gotten over that, and now it is a routine part of my listening experience, at least for now, until the tides of fate shift, and I am too flippin' wet to listen to any music. *ahem* Anyway, the opening theme is quite funky, it has the feel of wildly throwing dice and partying in Vegas. An interesting experience.

Though, several days after inital exposure, the "Clubbed to Death" beat exposes itself, and a strong desire appears for you to hear it. However, the desire climaxes within a day, and is easily controlled by mindless repetition of said song.
