Given OSC's interest in media that promote rather than deteriorate civilization, I think he would be interested in a new reality show on ABC. In my area it aired Monday night at 9p.

In each program, a nanny/in-home therapist named Jo goes into a home where the parents are having serious difficulty with their children. She spends time observing the family's patterns of interaction. She sits down with the parents, praises them for what they are doing well, and then describes the problems she observes. She gives them a plan for overcoming these problems, and works with them on implementing it (usually a basic behavior modification plan). She helps the parents learn the principles and skills of the plan, and then gives them some time to implement it without her present. Cameras are recording the parents, and after a time she comes back, gives them feedback on how well they did, and addresses any weak points. The last phase is reinforcement of the principles and skills taught, and then she leaves. The program ends with a follow-up on how the family is doing a while after Jo has left.

Jo is a no-nonsense female in her late 20's/mid 30's from the British Isles. She's very personable, emotionally secure, and very good at modelling skills and explaining ideas that parents need.

With all the garbage that is being produced as reality TV, it is refreshing to see a program that uses the money and influence of corporate media to not only improve a family, but also teach other families how to make similar changes. I hope this program gains viewers and grows in success, because I would like to see more prosocial programming like it. Wouldn't it be great if there were more shows like this? I'd be interested in seeing a reality show where a participant worked through an emotional or psychological issue, or overcame an addiction or compulsion. My wife suggested there be one that looks at repentance or conversion experiences. I'm not sure if any would be as easy to produce as this one, but ABC sure picked a winner when they chose to make Supernanny.

Yep. I noticed that the dad did know how to parent, it seemed like he had just given up because the mom let the kids go so out of control.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw that. I really disliked the moms attitude.

My mother thinks Supernanny is hilarious because, quote, "It's just common sense!"

She thinks she could be on the show.

I watched Supernanny once. I liked it. When's it on? Thanks in advance for being my TV Guide. [Smile]

I saw a bit of Nanny911 last night. It looked kinda stupid. But maybe it was because I thought it was absurd that the mother was resisting the nanny. I didn't watch much of it, but red pepper treatments?? What a moron.

The Supernanny seems cooler than the Nanny911 Lady.

There's a whole team of different nannies on Nanny 911. I like them much better than the Supernanny. "Cool" isn't the point; very often I watch the show and go, "d'oh! These are the parents who should have been required to take a training course before they had kids..."

When is Nanny 911 on?

I thought SuperNanny was freaking hi-larious. All the nannies are British. They answer the phone "Nanny central. How may I help you?" Of course, they all hang out and live at freaking Nanny Central, too. They all wear these Mary Bobbins type costumes. You gotta love it. [Smile]

I think Supernanny immatates Nanny 911... Never seen it before though...
But, the parents that beg for help for their kids and then resist the nannies' help really annoy me. They are the ones that are at a loss, they should do what she says...
Also that show makes me not want to have kids >..<

I'm in the Dallas area. Here it's on Fox at 7 pm Central time Mondays; it may be different in different cities, though.

Thank you, ketchupqueen. I'll give a look at it. These people who keep saying one is better than/immitation of the other but haven't seen both are what's "freakin hilarious." I don't know about all of the nannies on Supernanny being British, because I've only seen two episodes and both featured the Brit named Jo. I've grown to like her a lot, and in both episodes, she didn't engender any resistance from the parents. In my experience, being pushy and disrespectful to people is the best way to elicit resistance, and she didn't do either.
