Two friends mine (and Bob’s) are opening a bookstore. The just set their opening date (March 18) and will soon be ordering their first shipment of books! This is so exciting! (For those of you who were at the gathering at my house, Sarah, who was there, is one of them. The other is Sara, who was not there.)

Oh, and if anyone who’s coming to the wedding has any books they’re planning on buying soon, I could make sure they have them in stock. [Big Grin]

I'm really hoping they make it. The numbers look good and their start up costs aren't killer, but this is a really nerve-wracking thing to watch. I can't imagine the trepidation they must feel.

But, much to their credit, they're going for it anyway!

If I was in the area and going to your wedding, or the BobnDanaCon, I would definitely stop there and buy books. Loads of books. Because I can't help myself at bookstores anyway. [Big Grin] And I especially like supporting local small businesses. Good luck to them!

Which town is it opening in, dkw? In Ames, or further north in your area?

I do have two books I need to buy, but unfortuantely I need them by the end of March (gift for someone) but I'm sure I could find something in their store I would want.... [Big Grin]

Halfway between Ames and where I live, in Story City. (Good town for a bookstore to be in, no?)

I can't imagine starting a business that requires a lease and inventory. It was nervewracking enough with little capital at risk.

Good luck to your friends. I hope they make it. And I hope Border's and Barnes & Noble stay away.
