He was also the first pope to enter a mosque. He was also the first slavic pope. He was also the most-travelled pope. And, IMHO, the best pope in history.
This is a sad day, not only for catholics, but for all christians; not only for all christians, but for the world.

The timing of his death is interesting, and it made me realise something: If the Pope had gone into a "vegitative state", they would not have removed his feeding tube to kill him. Why? Because he's "important", and apperantly they didn't think Terri Schiavo was important enough to keep alive.

Good point, I would assume St. Peter prayed in a synagogue at some point, i hadn't thaught of that.

I'm just getting back home from work... and after reading and listening all about this and seeing the black banners on my old Church... I almost went inside when I drove past.
