Wishful thinking on my part. I don't have enough money to move my bowels, let alone everything I own into a completely different state. But if I could, I think St. Joseph, Minnesota would be a good choice.

Why? Because it has the highest percentage of females of any American city. Women are a scarce commodity in Alaska, you know. I have come to the conclusion that there are no women in my entire state who are a) interesting, b) attractive, and c) single. There are plenty who have any two of those three qualities. But none that have all three.

But in St. Joseph, Minnesota, a town of 4,600 people, 3,100 of them are females. 68%. I like those odds. Sure, Anchorage, having a much higher population, has more actual women. But the ratio is more even, so all a woman has to do here is leave her house, and she can find a man. If I lived in St. Joseph, there would be lots of ladies who would have to be single just by virtue of the fact that there aren't enough fellas to go around. Maybe I could finally find me a lady there. St. Joseph, here I come. I wish.

I was going to suggest "Century Village, FL" off that list for a climate change too.

But then I read the complete stats.

14. Century Village, Florida (62%, Median age: 77.7, pop. 7616)

Welcome to the MN clump, even if it is only through wishful thinking. If you want to be here, I'll consider you part of our clump.

Oh yeah. That's another thing. The median age in St. Joseph is 21 years. That's an important consideration. Century Village looks rather less promising. . . .

If membership in that clump grants me a lady and more convenient access to other Hatrackers, I'll gladly join.

Unless some Hatrackers want to get some interesting, attractive, single ladies they know and bring them up here, of course. [Evil]

There are only three of us (Hatrackers) here, as far as I know. As for a lady, you'll have to take care of that part yourself, but yeah, the odds are probably more in your favor here than there.

Um. St. Joeseph is home to a rather large Benedictine convent. And it's a small town. Which might be affecting the percentages of unmarried women. Just saying.

On the other hand, maybe you'd just hear 'no' a lot more often. [Smile]

See, now that's the kind of thing they need to warn you about. They need an extra stat in there saying, "Percentage of women who are nuns." That's kind of important. [Grumble]

Verily,

I'm going to let the cat out of the bag. Start a book club. It turns out that guys don't read, so dating is like shooting fish in a barrel. 13 and 14 to 1 ratios.

I imagine that the only better ways to meet literate, interesting women is through liberal arts graduate school or by becoming a teacher.

And Bryn Mawr is home to the all-women liberal arts college of the same name. A higher-than-national-average percentage of whom, I'm told by alums, are lesbian.

Of course, it wouldn't have been as funny if I'd mentioned that there is also a women's college in St. Joseph (The College of St. Benedict).

But their brother school is three miles away (which puts it one town over) and the students take classes on both campuses. So the actual male-female poulation ratios of both towns are skewed by the fact that all the male students officially live in one town and the women in the other.
