I would love to be able to save as .wav files the Real Audio or Windows Media audio files for radio programs such as Prarie Home Companion or Science Friday so that I can listen to them away from the computer.
I do not know how to do this.
Does anybody here know how to do that?

I have this Fisher-Price tape recorder that works pretty well, only you have to hold down the yellow plastic "record" button the whole time.

Science Friday and the News from Lake Wobegon, as well as many other NPR shows, are available on a subscription basis from Audible.

My Sound Blaster came with a program that will let you record "WhatUHear". It records any noise that comes out of the speakers. I've used it to get around iTunes, to "convert" my music to MP3s.

Yeah, I've thought of that, but this requires that I spend an hour recording an hour-long show.

I am using Audacity a freeware, open-source sound editing and recording program. I change the input to "Wave Out Mix", and it records whatever I my speakers play.
This will work well with Prarie Home Companion since the shows are pretty long, but it doesn't work as well for Science Friday because on the web site it's broken down into smaller tracks, and I have to record each one separately.
