And this time, the pictures are by me [Smile]

The local art & sculpture society wants me to put together enough pieces for a month-long exhibition at a posh restaurant. True, in a town this small, "posh" can only go so far, but it's more recognition than I've gotten before.

I guess this just proves that if recognition is what you're after, just move back to the small pond. [Razz]

And as an added bonus, I now have Mussorgsky's Pictures At an Exhibition running through my mind instead of that godawful Burger King commercial version of Big Rock Candy Mountain. I am forever in your debt.

Yeah, upload them soon and we'll check 'em out.

On a totally random subject, does anyone else here think that The Great Gates of Kiev would make a great score for a scene in a movie in which the Red Army lays siege to a German city in World War II?

Random? Yes. Highjacking? We'll see. Pointless? You bet your bottom dollar, missy.

OK, I've uploaded what I have on my computer now, which is most of my stuff. I do have some paintings and monotype prints that I have yet to photograph, but I'm pretty sure those are among my better stuff. My main problem is not being cohesive enough. I have the makings of four or five separate shows, but I don't know how to fit them together.

Vote for your favorites:

Photography:
Ghost Stove
Space Needle
Fresh Fish
Mission Mountains
Cookieman

Slightly Altered Photos:
Apricots
Bananas
Pies
Spotted Peppers
Striped Peppers

Digital Illustrations:
Sci-Fi Stamps
Family Tree
Wrapped in Red
Headscarf
Montana State
Self-Portrait Bookplate
Hawaii 5000

Paintings and other:
Backworld
Morocco Travel Poster (cut paper)

That's all I've got in there so far.

How many pieces do you need for the show?

Small show:

Space Needle
Bananas
Montana State
Self-Portrait Bookplate
Backworld

Doesn't exactly show your range, but the pieces work harmoniously with each other, I think.

She's in the apricots, I think slightly right of center, closest to the front. (darn! in the hour I was AFK without posting this, CT has guessed -- and I was wrong anyway [Razz] )

Speaking of which, I love the apricots. (Although if that's your idea of "slightly altered," I am never sending you produce-shopping! [Eek!] )

My other favorites are Space Needle, the stamps, the family tree, and the bookplate.

Congrats! [Big Grin]

And I get to have 12 - 20 pieces.

Some questions:

1. Will they be for sale?
2. What are the dimensions of the painting Backworld?
3. Do you have a bigger photo of that painting?
4. If it's for sale, how much?

One of your pieces is my favorite. Can you tell which one? [Big Grin]

I'm glad you like Backworld. It's always been my favorite, but was rejected from the juried show I entered it in. I had it hanging in my house for over a year before my roommate said... "Whoa. The world is backwards!" [Big Grin]

And yes, they'll all be for sale (after the show) and its dimensions are 24" x 30". I'll work on getting a better picture for you. [Smile]

Eruve, if you like, I'll send you a wallpaper-sized version of Mission Mountains for your desktop. It works really well that way. [Smile]

It's a picture taken on the Salish-Kootenai reservation, a place that I feel very strongly about. It's one of the few occasions that the indians got the best land around, and that's sort of bittersweet to me. Of course, these days, the white population on the res is high enough that you wouldn't know it's a sovereign nation.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you yet, Karl - my computer time has been a little touch-and-go. I think I'll be able to take some photos tonight and email them to you tomorrow when I'm back in the office. [Smile]

And thanks, Christy and Megan.

I appreciate the input from everyone - I just found a large-format printer in New Jersey that does large format archival prints for ridiculously low prices - around here they can push $60 each, and they're offering 18" by 24" for $13. Now I'm getting a bit more hopeful about being able to get all of these done in time, and I'm picking which ones will be going in. Hmmm.... choices, choices.

(edit: Christy ≠ Sara)

Ok... Karl should have an email from me.

I found a printer online that will do 18 x 24 poster prints very very reasonably (with archival inks!), so I decided to do fewer pieces, but bigger.

I made two more posters along the lines of Headscarf, making a triptych of propaganda in French [Smile] . I also had Apricots, Bananas, and Striped Peppers printed at 18x24, and will make them a series along with a painting I have (no pictures on line yet) that looks like a stoplight from far away but is a tomato, lemon, and green pepper. Then, I'll include Backworld, MSU and Hawaii 5000 and a monotype tetratych (I just made that word up) series I did of St. Corentin cathedral.

I still have to figure out how to frame (or mat) all of these with my very limited resources, but I'm very very excited about it all) [Big Grin]

Thanks everyone for your input!
