I have had "issues" with my juno e-mail lately, and I'm thinking about trying Gmail.

So for those of you who use Gmail...
Do you like it?
Would you reccommend it?
Do I have to get an "invite" to use Gmail?

Gmail is a little buggy sometimes. But overall I enjoy the theraded interface and the large mailbox. Sent you an invite in case you need one.

You can get it on Google now, I think.

I like gmail. It's better than hotmail. Hotmail sucks. Gmail sucks less.

Wow, Gmail gets 1000 MB, Juno only gets 2.

Thanks for the invite, I think I'll try it out. [Smile]

Yeah I like gmail way better than hotmail, which was what I had previously. The main thing I find annoying is when you send an email to multiple people, and they reply, it all goes into one conversation thread (where I would prefer each person's conversation thread to remain separate). Apart from that though, it's good. [Smile]

I'm actually finding the single conversation thread great for the PBEM D&D game. It's one of the great conveniences of gmail.

Lucky4 just sent me an invite after Wenchcon.
I like it so far, the threaded coversation style is nice, and with 1000 MB I'll never run out of memory.
And the inbox page refreshes in a heartbeat if you click on the refresh button on the page instead of refreshing through your browser.

Heh, just thought of something you might find useful, morbo -- there are implementations of file systems that use gmail for storage (on linux definitely, maybe windows as well). By using one of those filesystems with a spare gmail account or 3 you'd add a considerable amount of document storage space (this is of course most practical on broadband, but I think for little accessed stuff it would be feasible over dialup as well).

Hmmm, interesting way to archive--i hadn't thought of that, thanks Russell. But would it violate the TOS agreement? I never read those things...

Google doesn't seem to mind, its been around about since Gmail came out.

Note also that you wouldn't lose the files (at least in that version) if google got annoyed, as you could download the attachments manually.

Is there a way to create separate folders? I'd like to "file" different emails into different folders so I can save them and read them again for various reasons but I can't figure out a way to do that. I'm tired of tons of messages sitting in my inbox.

Instead of creating folders, you create labels. Create labels just as if you were creating folders in other e-mail services.

One advantage to labels vs. folders is you can put multiple labels on the same email. That way you can look at your mail in multiple ways, not limited in the ways that folders are.

Nonsense. You only say that because nobody ever has. [Razz]

And Eruve, please switch over. When you said you used Juno, I had this flashback to 1996, and those are years I'd rather not re-live.

Hehe...I used Juno back when it was all dial-up...the old version. [Angst]

Can you divide up e-mail addresses into lists or groups?

I love my juno mail! The online version is pretty good. My other email addresses come and go, and my hotmail is for minor stuff, but juno goes with me all over the country.
