Cheating Wife gets multimillion dollar settlement

This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. I can't even comment on it, I'm so angry over it.

It's in the article at the end, he gets more than 90 million, but that isn't the point.

It also pays to marry a man who is worth over $100 million. If a middle-class couple divorced over the wife's cheating, would you say that 27% of the wealth was too much? (Even assuming she brought no finances into the marriage.)

Probably not a middle class couple no. But this is just beyond the pale. I mean, she gets that ruby jewelry thing that he didn't even give to her when he found out she was cheating on him.

She should't get rich off adultery.

Wasn't she already rich (married to him)? Rich-er? I understand that it seems like a lot of money, but the percentage is reasonable, IMO.

And do we even know that she wasn't rich before?

I also do not understand about her keeping an intended gift that had not actually been given. I wonder what the story behind that is. I mean, was that his choice, or was it forced on him?

Except that now quite a few people know about her, and how untrustworthy she is. (especially anyone that googles)

Why would anyone want to date/marry her now? (gold digging aside)

I'm guessing it was forced on him.

I think when there's a case of adultery, the adulterous party shouldn't get even a reasonable sum of money. Especially if they are the party that didn't earn the money to begin with.

When they met she was married to another man. If they became involved with each ohter (the article doesn't make it clear one way or another) then he know what he was getting into, and I have no pity.

Hell, he gets to keep over 100 million in assets.... don't have any pity for him either way, now that I think of it. [Big Grin]

I don't think he needs the money, I don't care if they throw the money away, I just don't think she should get it.

I'm with Kwea on this:

quote:
The couple met in 1978 when Howard Sosin was an assistant professor at Columbia University. At the time, she was married to another man and working in retail.

It doesn't say so, but seems pretty likely that he engaged in adultery with her at the ouset of their relationship. It also doesn't mention if he was every married before. I mean, you could say she got 27%, or you could say she was deprived of 23%. I hope rock climber and airplane man were worth the 35 million.

This is why getting married is a big deal - even if they have turned out to be horrible, you decided to hitch your star to them. Even if she turnd out to be (always was?) an adulterer, he married her, which made her his other half and part of his life. When their lives split, she took part of it with her. The visible portion is money.
