I keep hearing this call off in the woods during the day and into the evening, but I have no clue what type of bird it is. It sounds like:
ooo...what? (pause) woo...woo...woo
The question mark indicates that the second syllable is "up" - like how your voice goes up at the end of a question. (think bob..white?) The call is deeper pitched than most bird calls and sounds "hollow" if that makes any sense.

An owl? We had an owl that sounded kind of like that behind our neighbor's house growing up. I don't know, otherwise.

I'll be darned...it is a mourning dove. The only time I've heard them is when they get frightened and fly away from under our feeders - they make a completely different noise, then. Thanks everyone for solving my bird mystery.
