I'm trying to explain the game of mafia to some friends. I know there was a good site out there with rules, but I can't find it. Anyone have a link? Also, anyone have a link to a good game at one of the various hatrack-esque sites? Thanks!

GC's mafia forum

I think the rules are in there somewhere...as well as archives of our last game--Muppet Show Mafia.

Thank you!

Looks like I'll be running one (no, sorry, you can't play--it's a game within a game thing). Does anyone have any advice on how to run a game?

Grr. Argh. The site I was linking to (mafiascum.net) to explain roles and stuff had its domain expire during the night. It had a great wiki explaining everything. Now I need to find another site.

Someone remind me--if the townies vote to lynch a mafia member, do I indicate in the death scene that the person was guilty? It's been forever since I've played/read a game, and I honestly can't remember.

This is the way we've always played Mafia:

Out of a crowd two people are randomly assigned to be mafia members and two are randomly assigned to be police officers (obviously, everybody else doesn't get to know who the mafia and police are). One person acts as the mediator.

The mediator tells everyone to close their eyes and then invites the two mafia members to open their eyes. The mafia members then silently agree to kill somebody. The mediator then tells mafia members to close their eyes and the police to open their eyes. The police then silently collaborate and ask the mediator if one individual is mafia. The mediator indicates with a head shake or nod whether this is the case. The mediator then tells everyone to open their eyes.

The mediator then announces the person murdered but does not reveal that person's affiliation (citizen or police). The entire group then collaborates on who to lynch with much back stabbing and argument. After a few names are submitted for lynching a vote is taken. The person with the most votes is lynched. We always played that the mediator does reveal the affiliation of the person lynched (citizen, police or mafia). The mediator then instructs everyone to close their eyes and begins the whole process again.

The mafia win if they kill off both police officers. The police win if they can persuade the citizens to lynch both mafia members.

Another question. I have 24 players. How many votes do I need before I have enough for a lynching?

For my games, I usually have a set time to close the voting. Just simplifies things a bit.

You can check out The Angry Crayon FAQ, read over a couple of our past games and even sign up to play our latest game if you would like more info [Smile] .

Also, I don't indicate outright if the townies lynched a mafia dude, but I'll usually provide a clue as to the person's role in the lynch scene.

Thanks, that's very helpful!

I would play, but my time is very limited, and I'm already wasting a time trying to run this one (we don't want it to drag and keep us from getting back to the REAL game). Maybe in the future.
