Hey -- late notice, but I'm going to be in SLC for a couple days this week visiting friends, and I'll probably have time on Thursday (April 7th) if anyone's interested in getting together. Either lunch or an early dinner would probably work.
So, yeah, anyone interested in getting together? (Enticements: HEAR BobNDana Con stories! MEET a (nice and polite and well-educated) hippie commune member and even see pictures of hippie commune life and the Burning Man arts festival! SEE... um, something else to round out this list, because I'm too tired to think and I should really go back to bed for a bit and grab some sleep before I have to check out of the hotel...)

I would love to, but I know that this next week I will be far too busy to do something like that. Posts: 1002 | Registered: Feb 2005

I'm thinking this is a bad time for me...I'd love to come, but my last day of class is a week from Wednesday, and I'm not at all ready for it. Sorry! I might rethink as Wednesday approaches, but it's not likely that the situation will be much better.

I'm on the road, and won't be able to check Hatrack for a few days, but whatever y'all figure out I'll be happy to do... my friends live ~10 minutes from the Amtrak station in SLC, so I assume that means I'll be close to downtown.
Anyway, I'll check in again on Wednesday and see what's up!

Allow me to add an endorsement: Plaid is way cool and if you can possibly find a way to meet him, you should.

Hey plaid, I'd love to meet up with you although my schedule is pretty full tomorrow. How'd you like to come to a war protest / peace vigil downtown at 5 tomorrow. It's held on the corner of 100 S and State Street every thursday.

If it were Saturday, we'd probably be able to come up and hang out with you. But unfortunately, I don't think we'll be able to make it up there tomorrow.

Rabbit! That sounds like fun! If I can't make it this week Rabbit I'll be sure to come to one soon. Next week I'll be in Sacramento, so most likely the week after if not this week.
Plaid: I have some stuff in the morning around 10am, but after I get done moving dirt, I don't have really anything planned, except work at 10pm.

The Peace vigil goes from 5 pm - 7 pm in front of the Federal Building (100 S State). It has been going on every Thursday since Sept. 11, 2001. It varies in size depending on the weather and the the weeks political/war events. Lately its been small but there are always at least a few there.

Yeah! That'd be neat... how quiet is the vigil -- would it be inappropriate for us to be chatting during it?
So how's this: I'd come to the vigil ~5 PM (my friends here can drop me off), and hang out there for an hour or so with Rabbit or anyone else who's there, and if rav or anyone wants then we could go out to eat ~6 PM? (If there's folks who don't want to attend the Vigil, then just show up ~6 PM to meet.)
(Me = I should be in the BobNDana Con photos, but rough description = tall, skinny, scruffy beard, dark hair, late 30s.)

The Vigel is not quiet. There are a group of Quakers who occasionally come. Even they rarely stay quiet.

I'll plan on hanging out at the vigil then. I'm a gruffy looking nerf herder. My name is Mark, and I'm addicted to PSP. 8)

If you don't see me right off, ask the guys with the signs if they've seen Bonnie. I may be a few minutes late since I will be coming from the Uni either by bike or bus.

Good thing we cleared that up. Particularly since the picture contains both a man and a woman.
I wonder how my husband would have responded if strangers came up to him and said, "Hi I'm rav, you must be The Rabbit".

Mr. Gumby -- sorry, can't make lunch, but I'll be there for the vigil, and for dinner afterwards if anyone's interested!

Yeah! I got to meet rav and The Rabbit! (Both very nice folks)
I also got to meet my first Mormon missionaries! I was at my friends' house, and they were out back when the missionaries knocked. So I got to talk to the missionaries for a bit (Elder Medwin and Elder Kim). So I asked them if they'd read any OSC books. They hadn't heard of him, so I told them that they should definitely read OSC books, because sometime they were bound to run into someone else like me who'd read OSC books. (And I assured them that OSC is a devout and well-respected Mormon.) So I wrote out OSC's name and also wrote down Ender's Game and the Alvin Maker books ("they're loosely based on the life of Joseph Smith!")
I forgot to ask them where they were from, and forgot to offer them any tea, bad manners on my part. But I did tell them about OSC, so I hope that makes up for it.

I've been in Utah for four years, and I have still never met Rabbit. (Don't worry, Mark, I also thought Rabbit was male. )
Dang schoolwork!
Edit to say: I am also sad that I missed meeting plaid! I'm always especially sad when I miss people who come from out of town. It's like it's a one chance type thing.
Somehow every Utah gathering has managed to happen in at a time or place when I can't come.
Both Plaid and rav seemed quite cool. I spent quite awhile talking with Plaid about his Hippy commune. I'd love to join one some day. I didn't get to visit too long with rav because I had to leave for my Deep Ecology class.
Someone needs to plan a Utah gathering around my schedule so I can meet some more of you.
