That is what I thought. If her friend hadn't showed up there is no telling what the guy may have done.

Oh, gosh. That's scary. I mean, that kind of thing-- and the fact that small children sometimes don't know the difference between a police officer and someone else in uniform, say, a security guard-- is one of the reasons that when we're doing "safety training", we'll teach our daughter to ask for help from a family group or woman with children or a "grandma" (older lady). Those are the people I feel safest telling her to approach, and most people fitting one of those descriptions would be willing to help her and stay with her until she was safe.

Not just kids - not many adults would think of questioning an officer or pay close attention to the little holes that would appear in such a cover.

We had an outbreak of cop impersonators recently - the damage was, if memory serves, limited to petty theft and delusional "heroics."

Does anyone read Faye Kellerman? One of her recent Decker/Lazarus novels had a cop impersonator in it-- kind of. *shudders*
