Okay, there was a topic like this about Paris Hilton a little while ago, and I agreed. But as much as I believe that Paris isn't as attractive as she's given credit for, she doesn't hold a candle to this disgusting hag. There's a new show coming on TV, and its previews are saturating the airwaves. It looks pretty stupid anyway, but it's all based around the premise that Pamela Anderson is the most desirable woman on the planet. Yet every time I see the creature that bleach, tanning beds and plastic surgery have wrought, I throw up a little in my mouth.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

Ya know, I've never looked at her face long enough to form an opinion. [Evil]

Seriously though, I don't think she's hideous - exaggerated to the point of a caricature, perhaps.

I don't really like anyone who is like 90% artificial. Why were they not happy with their original self?

For me she went from Hot (I was around 12) to Overrated (up until a few years ago) and now Ugly, which I've thought she was for a while.

So yeah, I agree. I admit though, she USED to be pretty, like when she was the tool-girl on Home Improvement for instance.

Yeah, she's too overrated.
Psst...I know its all this Hollywood crap, main reason I didn't go into modeling when they wanted me to. The entire showbiz atmosphere is too hostile.

With all that plastic she's sporting she could pass for one of those blow-up dolls.

When she first rose to prominence, before the implants and big hair and shotgun makeup, I thought she was one of the most attractive people I had ever seen.

Now? Feh. A six-foot barbie.

I thought she was attractive when I was in my early-to-mid teens. I haven't seen any images (pictures, TV, whatever) in a long time, though.

(When I hit 16, I developed a crush on Claire Danes. Then Angelina Jolie. Then Elizabeth Hurley. Then Kylie Minogue. Then Jessica Alba. Then Lexa Doig. Then back to Kylie Minogue. And so on. [Smile] )

She is a big Barbie doll, in terms of shape and material.

First of all, yes, I think Pamela Anderson is unattractive.

But, I tend to question hostility towards plastic surgery.

Why do we celebrate someone who is "naturally" beautiful over someone who obtains their beauty through artificial means?

I understand it at a genetic level...perhaps we feel misled by the fakery of plastic surgery and want to pass on these desirable traits to our offspring, but beyond that, what difference does it really make?

You often hear something like the following:

Guy #1: "Man, look at her breasts, they are perfect!"

Guy #2: "Yeah, but they're fake!"

Guy #1: "True, that is too bad"

Outside of the apparent desire to pass on this genetic info to potential offspring, what would it matter if they were fake or not?

Let's say for instance that you really couldn't tell at all whether someone had plastic surgery by any normal means. (sight, feel, smell, etc.)

But, then you found out later from an x-ray, MRI or whatever that your wife (or husband) had some plastic surgery for purely cosmetic means, would that lessen their attractiveness for you?

Just curious...

My husband says she's "too plastic". But then, he also says that about Dolly Parton. I think he may be echoing cultural judgements he's heard elsewhere without really considering for himself.

Pamela Anderson = yuck
Paris Hilton = yuck
Angelina Jolie = yuck
etc, etc...

But then again, I'm a girl, so maybe my opinion isn't the one you're looking for. [Wink]

I think most of Hollywood is just too plasic looking. Even some guys are starting to look plastic.

I think there's a fine line that you have to draw when you're discussing cosmetic surgery.

My mom knows someone who had a "merciful" nose job when she was younger that you can't tell by looking at her face at all now. I don't have a major problem with that, whereas I find the final product one of the "The Swan" episodes to have a very unattractive pinched look to them.

I guess that's why I much prefer "What Not to Wear" where they start out with the premise that the subject is beautiful, then they show them how to accentuate that beauty. [Smile]

Don't remember what Pamela Anderson looked like many years ago, but she does seem to be creeping up on that "Death Becomes Her" look.

And that is very unattractive.

To me, anyway.

I personally don't have a problem with cosmetic surgery at all. I'm attracted to people who look human, rather than caricatures of humans, personally, so I don't tend to like the results of, say, those nose jobs that were big in the 80s that just look freakishly weird, but if the surgeon has enough skill to make their work look natural, and an adult wants a procedure done, more power to them. I don't feel like I need any cosmetic surgery--I think that when I'm in shape I'm actually fairly attractive, and when I'm not in shape working out and eating healthily are a better alternative than a surgical procedure--but if I had a feature that I really disliked I'd consider having it "fixed" surgically.

As several other people have mentioned, I think she was very pretty when she first became well-known. Now, she just looks fake and unattractive.

Back when I was young and believed that breasts were what made a woman, yes, I thought she was attractive. Now, though, I realize two things: one, that natural is always preferable, and two, that I must have never actually looked at her face during my adolescence, because its about as actractive as a mule.
