The upside, I didn't smoke (been a month, holy crap can you believe it?)
The downside, my kid got punched in the face. Not that he didn't deserve it, but still. (He knocked a poster off a wall with his backpack, bent down to put it back up, got jostled and pushed by his bully and friends, he got up, pushed back, was pushed again, then (and this is where he made his mistake) he lunged at the kid. You know that head lunge with the "come on" hands?
Well, the kid punched him right in the eye. Of course, the kid's story is that my son ripped the poster off the wall and "came at him" unprovoked.
You'd think my son would have said that he was minding his own business when he was decked, but no. My son is honest, sometimes to a fault. (Not here, there is no problem with him being honest, but you know, sometimes, tact would be good.)
My son's version of it included his own culpability. The principal believes my son's version, and the janitor saw the actual punch, but as it happened as school was getting out, there are several witnesses that have yet to be questioned. But based on what he's heard, the puncher will get a three-day suspension and the punchee will probably miss a track meet.
He's going to have a nice shiner, though. Quite swollen right under his eyebrow. Eyebrow and eyelashes nearly touching when he first came home. Gave an Advil and we've been putting juice pouches on it. Man, those are really great for swollen things! No need to unfreeze the peas, flexible, cold, but not too cold and drinkable!
So, to sum up. I haven't had a cigarette in a month!

You know, I like my kid and all, but there's no way in heck I'd waste a steak on him. I love steak.

And it's not just that I haven't smoked. There've been no tobacco replacements involved. Nicotine free. After 3 packs a day for 20 years!
And Ela, he's 14 and I just quit smoking. Teenagers are so contrary and mouthy. It's a wonder he's still alive. I mean, he's 14 and I quit smoking!

Good job on the smoke free month! But, I would also like to commend you on your parenting. Your kid has learned that honestly is the best policy. How could he have done that without your fine parenting?

The juice and Advil have really worked! Now I kind of wish I'd taken photos before I had him do those things. But, I have a feeling it will be swollen again in the morning.
I'll update this if the eye gets really gnarly looking.
