So, I'm scouring the house for two prescriptions that must have somehow gotten thrown out. I won't name any names. I'm already irritated. I sit down to upload something on the computer.

Internet is broke. Hmm.

I play the reboot game. Reboot computer. Reboot router. Reboot DSL modem. Reboot router and modem at the same time. Give up on the router, connect directly through the modem with my laptop.

Then it LIES to me. It says I'm connected, but it won't let me go anywhere. [Mad]

I give up and call VerizonDSL tech support.

I got a dude from India. Fine, whatever, but I can't understand half the things he says.

First he talks me through all the steps I've ALREADY TAKEN.

"Does it work now?"

"No. I told you. I did that and it didn't work THEN."

He walks me through two more things that I hadn't tried. Ah-ha! We managed to tame the modem directly. Internet not broken. I ask to make sure my router works with this, too.

He asks what kind of router I have. I tell him.

"Where did you get it?"

"Um, the store."

"Is it new?"

"No, I've had it. It was working till about 15 minutes ago, when the modem stopped working, too."

"Where did you get it?"

"The STORE."

He tells me how to access the setup configuration of the router (duh, I knew this and had already done everything he proceeded to tell me).

Then we get into an argument.

"Up on the menu at the top, click DCHP."

"There isn't a DCHP option. There's DCCS." (I can't remember what letters they were, but there were for, there was a D and it wasn't what he was looking for.)

"Where are you looking?"

"At the top."

Now he's audibly irritated with me. What's sad is I KNOW what he's looking for. He says, "Read me the menu at the top."

I read him the menu at the top. Mind you, there is no DCHP option.

"Where is DCHP?" he asks.

"NOT AT THE TOP."

Pause.

I decide to be helpful because I'd like my internet Not Broken. "There's DCHP options right on the bottom of this page."

"Oh."

And he proceeds to tell me what's already been done. >_<

I check the browser. Internet is Not Broken. I ask him how it broke itself.

...he didn't know.

Gah.

Did you politely ask him to shove it up his butt?

Ahh, the joys of the net and net-related tech support. [Big Grin]

Apparently there was a massive glitch last night - it kicked me offline for a couple of hours and drove my roomie nuts.

I love the fact that when you're on hold, the on hold computer voice is telling you that you can reach tech support online.

I hate talking to people with foreign accents on phone. It drives me crazy, I cannot understand anything they say and it really irritates me.

Sounds like the same problem I had last night - which makes it an ISP-side issue.
