I just wanted to share a little Friday afternoon adventure I had. The police came. I found out my neighbors had committed a crime.
Two of them, in fact. My immediate neighbor was evicted for not paying her rent. Neighbor number two, just down the hall, was fresh out of jail for making a criminal threat.
Oh, and the police walked through my apartment, twice, with my gracious permission, to attempt access to the other apartment through the balcony door. Apparently maintenance was having trouble finding the proper key.
All in all, a good bit of excitement. I'm a pretty boring person sometimes. I did get to chat big screens with the policemen. I also learned about some recent events in the apartment complex involving evictions and a police standoff.

Ah yes, the glory of having some paid time off. Is a beautiful day, here, too. Windy, though. Good weather for dusting out the computers.
On the police, yeah, I agree. I've had good conversations with half a dozen of the police who come around here. I'm on good terms with them, and they know I'll call if I have anything to tell them.

Yeah, but when I'm thinking about work, then I lapse into slightly different vocabulary. I assume people know my terminology.

Yeah, and I bet the ones I haven't met are intriguing, too. I'm not going out of my way to get to know these people. My brief acquaintance with the evicted couple leads me to believe they're actually polite and decent.
The evicted couple came back about an hour after the police left and began moving out. They obviously needed help moving everything on such short notice. I loaned them a hand and let them store a few baskets of stuff in my apartment while they made two trips.
They thanked me and then...asked me if they owed me anything? Um, no. Keep it for paying off your rent.

Yeah, that's what happened, actually. While I was being a nice person, they told me how they agreed with the apartment complex's decision and they understood. However, they had some medical and financial issues (car wreck?) that kept them from paying right away.
I never asked them anything, I just kinda did my good deed for the day.

actually, screechowl, I like that possibility... it certainly beats the alternatives I've come up with to try and justify what happened today... it's raining here though so I can't go out and look.
