I found a Korean MMORPG called Xiah . It bills itself as am Oriental Fantasy that is fun and innovative.

I downloaded it and am now a level 7 mage. I LIKEY!

It is free, the graphics are market worthy, and it is fun, but it is not like most MMORPGs. The closest game it resembles is Dungeon Siege. It feels like a playstation game.

The characters level up much the same way as Diablo. It is definitely a hack-and-slash. All mages have the same avatar as other mages. You advance levels and decide where to put both skill points and character points (strength, dex, et cetera) like Diablo. The game play is very Dungeon Siegeish.

You can be a mage, warrior, ghost warrior, and barbarian--I think. I have only tried the mage.

A free good old fashioned hack-and-slash. I haven't tried joining a group yet, so I hope some hatrackers try this game out. The quests are mostly kill tasks that you get after you reach so much exp. I am not sure how I have gotten them, but they are fun.

The graphics are too good for a free game. When I installed it, it looks like they can cancel your account after the month trial period---but I think it must be in beta mode. All web pages about it say it is free. It did not ask me for billing info when I downloaded it.

The other MMORPG is based on Asimov’s Foundation series. I have not tried this game yet. I have just looked over the website. It looks like they reset the game every week. ATITD has it's settings and Foundation has it's cycles.

quote:
The "independent" missions have no deadline, the mission ends as soon as you have met your objective. For the "Empire", the "Merchants", and the "Foundation", missions all end on the Sunday of the week following the one when you started your mission (GMT+1, Paris Time). So if you start your mission on a Monday, you will have the longest possible time to complete your mission: 14 days. However, by starting on Sunday you will have the shortest possible mission: 8 days. Be careful: for Merchants and Founders it is strongly recommended that you begin on a Monday to have the greatest amount of time possible to complete your mission.

If anyone has played Foundation, will you let me know what it is like? If not, I will probably get around to trying it out in a few days.

Planeshift is a free MMORPG currently in alpha testing.

It is supposed to be more of a RPing game than a hack n' slash.

Runescape has a free portion of their MMORPG, but they no longer update the free version much.

It is made completely in java.
