*Self indulgent Whine warning*

I ordered a 512MB USB memory stick for work from CompUSA. I had to pay for it myself but I got reimbursed out of petty cash. So I had it delivered to my home because its easier if the address matches the credit card and I know how slow incoming things go through the work mail system.

I've been looking for it every day for nearly a week. Today, I went back dug out the order number and FedEx is claiming they delivered it last Friday. They are claiming they left it at my front door at 11:30am. Well I don't get home til 5pm and it wasn't there. Steve was keeping his eyes open too. I don't know if it was the driver or random teenagers, but it certainly isn't at my house now.

They've now opened a claim and I should either get the package or the money refunded to my account within 15 days.

But I really wanted the memory stick!!! On the other hand I don't want to shell out another $40 out of pocket in case they do find it.

Argh

So -- it might have been wiser (in hindsight) to have it delivered to your local CompUSA store and just picked it up there. Probably would have been faster, too.

That sucks. Does CompUSA ship things in obvious boxes? I noticed that Apple's started to ship things in very plain boxes that originate from "ACI Distribution Center". My iSight could have been a Home Shopping Network coffee mug, for all I knew. [Smile]

Hope you get your memory stick one way or another!

*sigh* the convienence of having it delivered to my house, was definitely worth it, at the time. Things have been crazed at work, with my boss on vacation, so taking time off to make the pickup would have been a pain.

And things have been crazed at home with the puppies, so I haven't been getting out much. The grocery store is basically it. So in hindsight, maybe it would have been better, but it also looked like if I went and picked it up at a compusa store i wouldn't get all the rebates.

Yeah - that's a problem. It was already becoming a problem back when I worked at CompUSA in 2000. It made no sense to me at all that the retail stores actually were basically competing AGAINST the online store! I mean, there were things you could order online from CompUSA.com that were cheaper than what you could get them inside the store, and they could never get that solved. They were paying commissions to the retail guys in the stores, but also killing them by offering the stuff cheaper than in the store.

Luckily I just worked in the Training Center, not the retail side. (Sometimes I go back to my local store and the manager there will still give me special discounts, just because he was so fond of me when I worked there) *grin*

Steve actually gets home around 3:30pm. I can ask the neighbors if they saw anyone last friday. I'm hoping the delivery driver just screwed up somehow.

I just had a fun experience with fedex myself. Two days in a row the tracking thing said that they attempted delivery (of my 1GB ram stick from newegg). The second day, I was literally home ALL DAY and no fedex man. I look on the site...it said attempted delivery, business closed/no one home.

O_o

So I called. Woman read that back to me. I said I was home all day.

Turns out the fedex dude was going to the wrong door. [Roll Eyes]

Compusa doesn't have its folks working on comission anymore. I also go INTO the store since one of my best friends works there. [Smile]

I should have checked newegg when I was looking for my usb stick, but compusa seemed the cheapest for a cursory search.

Not nearly as bad as the company next door to us.

They lost a FedEx shipment of, get this, 20 iPods.

The poor guy was wandering from office to office, showing off the signature and wondering if anyone recognized it.

His expression was one of, "is this building high enough for me to leap from?"

A guy I used to work with ordered a videocamera by mail order. The parcel service left it on his front porch, where he found it.

Then he called and told them it never arrived. They sent him a second video camera. I guess the parcel company paid for it.

He bragged about it, and tried to sell me one of the cameras.

I had a big mess with FedEx last fall, but they had delivered my package to another business, and they had a delivery signature and address that did not match my address. So they knew that I hadn't received the package, but I still had a huge mess because I wasn't the shipper, so I couldn't initiate a claim. The vendor that shipped the package to me refused to work with me, because they had "proof" that the package had been delivered (and indeed it had, just not to me)... I finally got it all figured out, after about 8 weeks I got a replacement shipment. The very next day, the person who received (and signed for) my original shipment called and said they had my package. [Mad] I told them to send it back to the manufacturer, but they just called FedEx, who delivered it to my home the next day (while we were gone... they just left it on the front step).

I called the manufacturer and told them I have *two* packages and if they want one back they can send for it, but they haven't responded. [Dont Know]

I hate working with cr*p like that.

I hope your case gets resolved faster than mine did.

Okay, a good part of my day is spent dealing with these issues.

First off, don't file the claim with FedEx by yourself. It will take forever to get your money back from them, when all you really want is the product you ordered.

Instead, call the customer service for the company you ordered them from and ask, politely, "Where's my package?" They'll track it down and tell you, "Umm they left it at your doorstep or such and such signed for it."

Just say that you didn't get it and could they check with FedEx and get a (and here's the magic wording) "Driver Follow-Up".

They will then get in touch with FedEx OneCall, a pay service that most shippers use. FedEx will then send a driver out to the address to check on what they did with the package. Sometimes they find it, sometimes they don't. The driver will then report back to FedEx within two business days. The OneCall rep will then (if the package is truly gone) allow the company to file a claim for the lost merchandise. The company will then send you a replacement.

Simple. And here's where it hurts, most contract drivers for FedEx (their Ground and Commercial delivery ones) have to pay for lost parcels out of their own pockets. Every claim they lose hurts them quite a bit.

But get the company you purchased from to file the claim. That way FedEx pays them back and you can get your items sent back much, much quicker.

they did file a claim themselves. they said I'd either have the package or a refund in 14 days. but I wanted my memory card now!

also, they didn't have anyone sign for it...

Embarrasing Follow up: Steve found the part. It was shut into the screen door on what is technically the "front" door. The thing is, we don't use that door, and actually have it blocked off from the inside. So I had to walk around the house on the outside to look for the package. I never thought to actually open the screen door to see if it had been tucked inside. I expected it to be sitting on the front porch for me.

I'll call them on Monday and tell them to cancel their claim.
