So it's just about here...in about 10 days I will hope a flight (together with the Portland State University Chamber Choir) to Germany. We're competing in two international competitions in Linberg and Marktoberdorf during our two week stay. I was drafted in as a replacement right after Christmas, and my dearest cooperating teacher is sweetly letting me ditch my student teaching for the two weeks that I'll be gone. It's finally starting to hit me that we're going and I'm getting excited.
I have long layovers in Newark on the 5th and 18th if anyone is roundabout. If not, you're all invited to hear us sing in Germany later that week.

Ah. I see. Well, I don't suppose I'll be needing one of those, but thank you for the offer.
I don't know anything about Germany though, I'm wondering if there is food I HAVE to eat, or something I really need to experience while I'm there. I can't imagine that I'll be returning any time soon, so now's my chance.

Narnia, I read some advice in the paper today about student loan consolidation that directly contradicts what I told you. I'm going to try to find it online and email it to you, but I want to put this somewhere I'm pretty sure you'll read it. There are still reasons you might not want to do it, especially since you're going to be a teacher, but it is much more current and knowledgable than what I said, and I want to make sure you see it.
And have fun in Germany!

If you can, look for a little town named Rengshausen. Next to the town mill, you'll find my Grandma's house. Tell her I sent you and she'll stuff you so full of food you won't be able to walk.

Frankfurt (Frankfurt-am-Main, right?) has a neat botantical garden, if you're looking for stuff to do while you're there! (You know, when you're not busy singing or eating great ice cream or keeping your students from starting international incidents...)
