Since I have been sick, naps are a form of medicine for me. I dive into sleep and i am out cold. When I awaken, I am not groggy, but fully refreshed, unlike before, hen, if I napped too long, I would be a mess for the rest of the day.
I usd to have the fifteen minute nap down. I could dip down into sleep, and come right back up, feeling refreshed. Now, I just need more naps. It doesn't matter how much slee I get at night, either.

The Uberman sleep schedule is a method of organizing your sleeping time to maximize your REM sleep and minimize your non-REM sleep. The goal of the sleep cycle is that you are actively in REM sleep within a couple of minutes of falling asleep and remain in that state until you awaken.
Sleeping Hours The Uberman's sleep schedule revolves around forcing yourself to rely on six twenty to thirty minute naps spread throughout the day for your daily dose of sleep. I stuck to thirty minute naps, currently having them starting roughly at 2 AM, 6 AM, 10 AM, 2 PM, 6 PM, and 10 PM every day.
How & Why It Works Over the course of a normal eight hour sleeping period, your body moves through a continuous cycle of five distinct sleep stages. Of these, stage 5 REM sleep has been found to be the part of the cycle that provides the benefits of sleep for your mind.
Essentially, the trick of the Uberman's sleep schedule is to trick your mind into entering REM sleep as soon as you drift into a sleeplike state. Unfortunately, the only real way to do this is through sleep deprivation of sorts.

I would like nothing better on this rainy afternoon than to go home and take a nap with my kitten. She's an excellent nap accessory. I'm just so tired today!

The problem with the Uberman sleep schedule seems to be the schedule. I would think it would be darn inconvenient.

Paul (Otaku) did the uberman sleep schedule once. He said there were a number of problems with it, including the fact that it considerably slowed down healing from any injuries, and recovering from illness (or stopped them altogether). Also I think he attributed some anomalies in his development to that. I think he managed to stick to the schedule for several months on at least one occasion, and perhaps a few more times for shorter periods.

I regularly get a 60-90 minute nap in the afternoon. I started doing it when I began working on farms -- it's a great way to get a rest in the afternoon and recharge my batteries, and napping in the afternoon means that I get out of the sun when it's hot, and so instead can work later into the evening when it's cooler again.
I like an afternoon nap -- I'm much fresher the rest of the day. The only drawback is that I'm really used to getting a nap now, so if I don't get one, then I get groggy and a bit cranky in the late afternoon for a few hours...
Another nice part about getting in a good nap is that this way I can stay up late AND get up early -- so, I can stay up to midnight, and still get up ~7 AM.
Elizabeth, I know what you mean about being sick and needing more naps -- now that I've got Chronic Fatigue stuff going on, I'm finding that taking naps is even more important, my body is much more insistent that I not skip naps...

I have to take naps in the morning. I stay up too late, have to get up at 6 a.m. to get the girls off to school, play around on the computer for awhile and then back to bed til 11 a.m. or so. I'll be heading to bed shortly.
I suppose I should work on getting my sleep cycle to something resembling normal, especially since I need to look for a day job ... maybe next week ...

Heck, I've been using that ever since I moved to days with six class periods at my high school.
