I finally caught an episode of the show. Wow. I was really impressed by the job the Nanny did--I hope things stay better in that house.
In case you didn't see it, it was a single-mother household, with two kids. Their father had died the year before, and the kids HIT their soft-spoken mother like crazy to get their way. They also hit each other.
It was pretty terrible. Somehow, the nanny managed to make a big difference in the house.

I saw it. I missed 24 the last week, so I was determined to just watch FOX from 6 until 9!
I never wanted to watch nanny 911, but I was impressed. I thought it would be a cheezy reality TV show, but the advice given was sound.
I hate to admit it, but I was enthralled.
My concern is how ethical is it to film kids with behavior problems who are dealing with deep issues? When I worked as an Anger Management Specialist, there were pretty strict confidentiality laws. Granted, the mom waived confidentiality for the show, but....I felt weird.
I also wonder if the kids were coached to act a certain way for a camera shot. How accurate is behavior when there is a group filming you with multiple cameras?
My biggest concern, which will prevent me from being a fan or watching it again, is the fear that they get kids to exaggerate behavior so that they can fix it. Since I can't verify if childhood behavior manipulation is happening or not, I do not want to unwittingly support what I consider a type of child abuse.
All that aside, the Nanny was spot-on with her advice and how she handled the situation.

Some of the things the kids said sounded like they got it from a therapist or listening to adults talk. Like it wasn't real somehow. The parts where they said they were angry.. I don't remember exact words. It sounded like they were latching on to whatever reason they heard from adults for their bratty behavior. Kids pick up our psychobabble and use it to their advantage, I think...
What made me suspicious was the trip to Hawaii announced at the end. Is that something they give to all families? It must be, because the mother certainly didn't look surprised. And if a free trip to Hawaii is in the cards, some mothers just might coach their children... hmm... I would expect a lot more jumping up and down and screaming.. Oooh Hawaii! I have lots of sympathy for whoever gets stuck on the plane with those kids. I'm not convinced they're reformed enough to stay good confined for that long...

As far as I know, they don't usually award a trip to teh families...then again I have only caught a few shows. I iwll ask JenniK, she usually watches it.

They always give either a trip, a cruise, or something else (camping equipment, golf carts, whatever) to the families at the end. It's a surprise to the families.
