I'm off to Paris in about an hour! I'm pretty excited, even though I've got a notice from the American Embassy in my wallet, warning me about the riots, and giving me their phone number "just in case".

Oh lucky you! I'd love to go to Paris. Of course, I'm going to be in NYC, OH, IN, and CA all within the space of a month, so I can't complain about a lack of travel.

I haven,t read anything about any riots in a few weeks. Now that Villepin and Chirac pretty much gave in to the demands and revoked the CPE, there ain't much to worry 'bout. Except pickpockets
Of course this isn't to say there won't be a NEW law to demonstrate against, causing new riots. Rule of thumb: when the guys with little shield logos that say "CRS" show up, that's when to make your exit.
Oh, and have fun! I don't know your flexibility; but if you get a chance while you're here to catch the TGV to Angers (west from Gare Montparnasse), I'd love to show you around. Can't guarantee you'd have a place to stay, though the streets are pretty safe even at night
