I just got one and I was surprised to see how they designed it. It has a zoomed up shot of half of the president's face and a buffalo on the back. Does anyone know if the treasury dept. is going to re-design all change denominations?

do you know if they are going to re-do the quarter, perhaps the penny or the dime?

Here are the 2004 nickels.

And the 2005 nickels.

And you know they are making 50 new quarters, right?

I count 4 change drawers every morning I work, and I have yet to see one of these. I'm keeping a bunch of nickels handy just in case I find some. [Smile]

I'm going to say this here because I can't say it anywhere around this town:

Lewis and Clark can eat my shorts.

i had a friend, er... acquaintance from Portland, OR. Their idolatry of L&C seemed -- overblown.

I remember when this 2005 nickel design was announced, but I have yet to see one.

It's true - there is no limit.

Every once in a while someone pulls over to the side of the road by my house and staggers out of the car blissfully because the Corps of Discovery had lunch there.

I had a woman come in to my gallery and commission a portrait of Seaman, Captain Lewis's dog. She asked if there were any historic photos or portraits that anyone could work from. Sorry, Ma'am, not that I know of. I could probably talk someone into drawing a picture of a fluffy black dog for you, though. Just hand over your credit card...

I've seen the new nickel and evaluated it very closely. I estimate its value to be approximately 5 cents.

I saw one last week. It was very weird to see Jefferson's head so big. And for some reason the buffalo didn't look like it had the right number of legs. Probably they were all the exact same size or something like that.

I still think that when we finish with the statehood quarters, we should start putting the vice presidents on the back. How great would that be?

Annie, I googled the dog...

http://www.bismarcktribune.com/lewisclark/1997/inspiration42.html

apparently people wrote children's books using the dog as the narrator... if the lady had read one of those she may not have realized that they don't know what he looked like.

Though if he actually was a Newfoundland we can make a pretty close approximation.

I've seen the 'Louisiana Purchase' one. In fact, I think I have one somewhere.

mothertree.... Maybe you did see an American Bison with the wrong number of legs. Maybe it is one of those mint errors.
