Is Yahoo messenger worth getting?

Or msn messenger?

(I'll delete this after I get some input.)

I think they are... they both have cute smileys. Yahoo gets a bit lagurchedy when you are trying to send files sometimes, MSN often does not and both are good for voice chatting too.

Why delete? No need.

I have both. And AIM. Seems like different friends use each. So it's just easier to have them. I like Yahoo best though. Has a lot of control and other extra things if you want them.

I love Yahoo messenger because it tells me when I get mail to that account. And it has the funniest sound-smily-thing *ever* of an airline stewardess. I don't use it to message people though so I can't help on if that's any good.

In my opinon, MSN messenger is completely worthless. Well, maybe not completely, but it's up there on my list.

What I don't understand is why no one uses ICQ anymore. It's the best messenger programme I've tried by far, except for the lack of my friends on it these days...

ICQ drives me crazy. Between the noises, the random people messaging me and adding me and the fact that I can't post just by pressing enter...
It was my first program, but there are others I like so much better!

Gaim is good, too.

Come to think of it, I would say go with Gaim rather than bothering to download AIM, MSN or Yahoo messenger. With Gaim you can use all 3.

I guess the random people messaging *are* a negative part to ICQ. It didn't really start happening much (to me anyway) until long after I stopped using it regularly so I don't usually think of that. However, ICQ *does* allow people to find you without having your email address, which can be good as well as bad.

(And Syn, you can post by hitting Ctrl-Enter on ICQ, if you didn't know.)

I'm a Trillian girl myself. But that's also because I use ICQ, MSN, Yahoo!, and AIM for different people. What, you think I should have four messenger clients installed? I am aghast at the thought! [Big Grin]

As for random messenging from people you don't know, it's all a matter of altering your security settings to prevent such things. I don't have such things happen to me...

Tate - Trillian and Gaim are third-party messenger programs that allow a singular interface across multiple accounts.

You could have an account with MSN, Yahoo and AIM and access all three with just one program, instead of juggling all three messenger programs open at once.

Sure - I've often pulled files from www.download.com.

However, remember that you still need to set up an account with AIM or Yahoo or Microsoft first.

Trillian only allows you to access your accounts - it doesn't create them for you.
