I'm too far away to have felt it. But I understand that they're evacuating the low-lying areas of Crescent City. Nice little town. Hope there's no tsunami.

I live on the coast in San Diego, and everyone here is fine. It would have to be a tsunami of biblical proportions to be a real threat. Although, my friend who lives on the beach is not staying at home tonight, if I lived only feet from the ocean I would'nt want to hang around either. But for the crazy one's, SURF'S UP!!!

They've rescinded the tsunami warning.

Anyone heard from our NorCalians? Do we even currently have any regularly-posting NorCalians?

Ok, that's one. Glad you're ok, Chris. [Smile]

Do we have any others who have failed to check in?

That’s like the 3rd around this side of the world recently. Wonder if it’s all done or if there’s more to come.

California had better wait until after September to slide off into the ocean. I want to go to Disneyland one last time.

There's northern California, and then there's REALLY north northern California. This earthquake was off the coast of Crescent City, which is only about 25 minutes from the border with Oregon (I used to live in Crescent City, and go shopping in Oregon, since there's no sales tax [Smile] ). Eureka is the county seat of the next county down (Humboldt), and is about 100 miles south of Crescent City. San Francisco is about 550 miles south of Eureka. So if the earthquake was off the coast of Crescent City (and Trinidad, which is a hamlet between Crescent City and Eureka), then I doubt there would be much to feel down in Santa Rosa, a good 500-600 miles away from the epicenter. I was living in a town near Eureka when the 1989 earthquake hit, and it only felt like a size 3 or 4 earthquake.

Note: the distances are all estimates--but I made that car ride to San Francisco and back A LOT as a child.

Jasonweed's link put the epicenter 300 miles from Sacramento. That means Santa Rosa would be more like 250? 200? ish.

(And since Sac as east of San Jose as it is north I was guessing that it was 300 miles from here as well.)
