I have been playing Guild wars all morning, and I am wondering if there are any fans on Hatrack.

Very beautiful graphics, interesting story (but not, to me, personally engaging), no monthly fee, interesting class system. Crafting stinks. Very linear. I prefer to variability of an MMO, which this is not.

I got bored with final fantasy online, Guild wars sounds like a faster paced version of FF

I have been playing it for a few days and am ready to give it my thumbs up. The best way to describe Guild Wars is to have you (whoever is interested) imagine a combination of Dark Age of Camelot and Diablo 2.

It is a very fast paced hack and slash that is linear like Diablo. Everytime you leave a town, the world is reserved for just you and your party. There is no camping of running into other people. There are town ports, much like Diablo's way points, that let you warp to any city you have already visited. Altho this takes out the random encounters of most MMORGS, you can talk to anyone in the towns. Towns are where you socialize. When you are invited or strong enough, you can join guilds with guild houses.

The part of the game like DAOC is the Tournaments. Your guild, or your temporary party, can go to arenas and pvp. The benefits of PVP is that you can unlock additional skills only by advancing in the arena. When you are in a party, it is very tactical.

Since there are only 20 levels in GW, the difference between level 4 and level 13 is surprisingly small. I hire henchmen to help me with quests, and they are level 3 where I am level 9.

The reason the level is not such an issue is because leveling up does not give you more mana, and it only gives you around 20 more health. What makes you powerful are the skills.

As you complete quests or do tournaments, you unlock skills. You can also buy skills with skill points (you get one sp each time you level). You also get 5 attribute points a level. Attributes are how Skills are leveled up.

I am a Necromance/Monk. I can eventually get 75 Necro skills and 75 Monk skills--for a total of 150 skills. The skills are in catagories, Ie: "Death Magic", "Curses," or "Healing." I think there are around 5 catagories per profession. You choose a primary profession and a secondary profession. When I level, if I put more attribute points in the Death Magic, then those skills become more powerful.

The consequnce is that if I dived my points from my level 9 NecroMonk between Death Magic and Healing (raising each to level 4) and put my left over points in Smiting, and I join up with a level 3 Warrior who has raised his Swordmanship skill to level 4, we make a good team.

You can only have 8 skills equiped at a time and you can only change skills in town. The game is very friendly for changing how you distribute your attribute points so you can try out different skill combinations at different power levels.

All the skill and attribute points make for a very tacticle game. You really do need to play with other players to get the full benefit of the game. You can hire henchman, but it is not the same.

Anyway, after about a week, I give this game 2 thumbs up. My favorite games before Guild Wars were Civ3, DAoC, and Diablo 2.

PS: Oh Yeah, there is NO monthly fee and the world is beautiful.

I've been playing Star Wars Galaxies for the last 9 months, but with the new Combat Upgrade Sony DESTROYED Jedi, and have now made the game stupid and unplayable.

I am looking for a new mmorpg
