I just read this letter to the editor from CEO/president of Swire Coca-Cola. If you've seen Super Size Me, this guy's usage of the line "commited to provide a variety of choices" is perfect. I wonder what's wrong with his irony detector.

[Roll Eyes]

The only vending machines that will help are the ones that dispense fruit, salads, sandwiches, and yogurt. No kids need to have soda at school -- and I wish our school did NOT have a soda vending machine.

This is the mission statement of the company:

We create with pride the magical feelings, special times and great taste of America's best soft drinks. We are committed to realizing today the same level of excellence established over a century ago by the Coca-Cola Company and The Swire Group. This commitment to excellence guides our actions with our fellow employees, customers and community, thus ensuring the profitability of our company.

Heh, heh. Poor fat kids, aquafina doesn't produce magical feelings.

I completely agree, Rivka.

Magical feelings?

[Angst]

Also, just to be pedantic, skinny kids' health is suffering from over-consumption of soda just as much as fat kids'. They may be skinny, but their bones are dissolving away.

Thanks for clearing that up, RRR.

I wonder if he even realizes he completely skirted explaining what anybody gains from drinking soda pop, or if he read the mission statement and decided it would be better not to bring it up.

I believe he means committed to providing. The way he said it, it sounds like someone else committed him in order to provide [blank].
