I recently came across this title in an OSC review of another book. He listed it as one of three books he recommends to writing students as must-reads to gain an understanding of what it means to be human. A quick look at it on Amazon.com told me that it is about geography as the major determinant of history.
I haven't yet read the book, but it was one of those serendipitous moments when I came across a TV review in the Washington Post. Apparently, National Geographic has made a 3-part documentary based on the book Guns, Germs, and Steel , featuring the author, Jared Diamond. It will be airing on PBS on 3 consecutive Mondays, starting tonight (July 11). Thought other OSC readers might be interested.

It's a great book. But don't ever loan it to friends; it'll sit on their desk and guilt them into reading it slowly over the next two years, and so you'll never get it back.
