Ok, one of my best friends asked me to put together their Power Point Photo presentation. Not sure if this is a WV thing with having these going at the receptions and what not, but seems like everyone does them around here with the pics of them as kids and then dating and what not. So…. Anyway… I’ve got them all scanned in but still need music. All the guidance I got was something romantic. So women of Hatrack help me out. What’s some good romantic songs to put on here? I was thinking a ballad of Metallicia’s “Shortest Straw” might be appropriate (just kidding). But really, what’s in and all that. Any suggestions?

Most anything by Loreena McKennitt. [Smile] (I'm listening to a song by her now.)

Why don't you play a joke and do songs that people think of as romantic, but really aren't, like "Every Breath You Take" and "White Wedding"?

Personally, I would go with instrumental background music, not ones with lyrics, because I feel that takes away from the presentation. But that's just me.

If you were doing it for me, it would be Yanni's "Love Songs" album....

"You Light Up My Life," "I Honestly Love You," and "Endless Love."

Half your audience will honestly think it's sweet and endearing and the other half will think you're hilarious.

"Give Yourself to Love" by Kate Wolf is the traditional wedding song in my family and is used in some capacity by just about everyone. As a plus, her family (she is deceased) has given permission for anyone to use the song at their wedding. So no copyright issues.

Plus it's just about one of the best songs ever written.

Get John Cusack to stand at the back of the room with a boom box and play "In Your Eyes"

Edit for clarity: The song suggestion is legit, the John Cusack suggestion is a joke.

Though if you do manage to get John Cusack to come, can you sneak me an invitation too?

I went to a wedding and they had "Annie's song" by John Denver. But it was an instrumental version, so you didn't have to listen to the sappy lyrics. It was pretty cool. Personally, I like the theme to 'Somewhere In Time'.

<----has had a mean crush on John Cusack forever!

Did they have a reception with music? Maybe you could incorporate the music from the reception and/or ceremony into the presentation.

Are they Christian? If so, "When God Made You, He Must Have Been Thinking About Me" is an excellent choice.

In Your Eyes is about getting dumped.

I have the perfect suggestion, but since you're only interested in women's advice, I'll refrain from sharing. [Razz]

We did that at my rehearsal dinner and used two songs: "A Page Is Turned" by Bebo Norman (romantic, sentimental, with a Christian slant) and Counting Crows' "Accidentally in Love" (more fun and upbeat, for the outtake type pictures). I thought both songs fit perfectly.

Bryan Adams has some sappy songs.

At every music store I've gone to, there's been compilation cds featuring instrumental versions of "hit love songs of the 80s, 90s, and today."

I think some slow jazz might sound good.

You should really ask the bride and groom. You don't want to make a mistake and play a song one of them listened to after a really bad break-up.

Find out what genres they listen to and pick from them. Keep in mind, this presentation isn't about you, so don't play a song YOU like. Play a song THEY like. Does that make sense?

If you know what genre they are especially pulled to, post it and I'll give you some good choices.

Well, I never said the men of hatrack couldn’t suggest, just knew that the women are the romantic ones and more into weddings and what not. So have at it men.
I do plan on having it to them in plenty of time to change it, but figured having some music there already would be good.
They’re catholic. I’m not sure what kinds of music they listen to regularly. I think mostly just regular top 40 stuff.
The Yanni might be a good idea since I doubt people are going to be quiet during it and I think they’re wanting it off to the side at the reception. Wonder if you can flip through different songs as it goes through the show over and over again or if each slide would have to have the same bit.

I'm Catholic, and you guys are killing me! I needed that laugh, thx!

May I respectfully suggest classical? No lyrics, pleasant feel. There are a selection of traditional church-approved and secular pieces, or you can just go with what you think will work with the tastes of the Bride and Groom and the theme of the wedding. No necessarily Wagner, but you get the idea.

Hey, the BBC has symphonies for download, free.

(Edit: was I the only one that wanted to suggest some nice Gregorian chants when I read that line?)

Okay, I know I shouldn't mention this, but is anyone else horrified by the whole Powerpoint wedding thing?

Actually, I think it's kind of cute and fun. The last wedding I attended had one and that was how I found out how the groom proposed (he wrote "will you marry me" in snow on her car).

Plus, it gave us something to look at while the bride and groom went back down the aisle, stopping at every row and greeting each person before going on to the next row. We were close to the back and had to wait quite a while.

See, we had a wedding scrapbook that accomplished something similar, in which we included old love letters and a "meet cute" story. But for some reason I balk at the prospect of Powerpoint.

I guess it's the difference between showing someone photos of your vacation and showing someone a multimedia presentation of your vacation.
