A women called my house a couple of minutes ago. It is about 3:30 my time. She asked for Mark. I said that she must have the wrong number. She just hung up. Without an apology or a bye or a thank you. Who calls people at 3:30 without making sure they have the number right? Sure I am awake, but my parents weren't. Arg.

Well, if she was calling anyone at all at 0330, it was probably an emergency. Perhaps she had reason to be a little distraught and rude.

I get about 3 wrong numbers on any given day. When you get them over and over, you are kind of grateful to the ones who just hang up on you. ::shrug::

A friend of mine said someone once called her and asked if John was there. My friend said, no that there wasn't a John at that apartment. The person then asked if my friend was sure, and she said yes, that he must have a wrong number. The caller then started yelling at her, saying that he knew John was really there, and that she was lying about it...and then tried to tell her that she had admitted to knowing John. Fortunately he didn't call back after she hung up. It was definitely a very strange wrong number.

Or she was just drunk, or engaged in some other less than recommendable behaviour, and was simply being rude and inconsiderate, as inebriated people often are.

I had a weird one yesterday. I received a call on my cell phone which was labled "withheld". So naturally I didn't answer it. My name is Josh and apparently this person, Trish, was looking for someone else named Josh and left me quite a lengthy message about I don't know what. What are the odds of getting the wrong # and still getting a Josh?

I had a silly friend who used to say things like "no she's not here, she left a while ago with some guy" or "well, he's passed out now and I can't wake him up" when people called the wrong number.

My favorite was this lady who left numerous messages on our machine, even though we say our names and they clearly aren't the names of her son and daughter-in-law.
I finally had to call her back and say "Ma'am, sorry to break it to you, but I ain't your son." Her response? "I thought he didn't sound the same on your machine."
Just goes to show how well we listen sometimes...

So true.
I always wonder about wrong numbers. It's one of those things, that for a brief moment, you become part of a stranger's life, evoking much more of a reaction that just walking by them in a crowd. I wonder if people just end up talking to the person they mistakenly called, and maybe it wasn't a wrong number after all, in some sort of weird voodoo cosmic sense.

Ever get wrong 800-numbers? At work one day somebody kept calling into our customer service 800 and somehow getting the extension for "escalated" calls, which are answered by the senior reps. The senior reps sit fairly near me, so I got to hear 6 or 7 calls of them trying to explain to someone that 1) We were not the insurance company they were trying to call, and 2) There was not a spanish-speaker available to explain this to them more clearly. The thing is, they just kept calling back the exact same number, and talking to one of the same 3 people each time.

I was taking a picture in a church yesterday. I didn't see no photos sign so I figured it was okay. But then a lady tells me in a sort of offended tone: "You can't do that". I think she means taking photos in church but I ask "I can't do what?". "You can't take photos of people you don't know. You can't take photos of me". "Um, I wasn't taking photos of you." "Yes you were". I figure she's not quite there so I apologise and leave.

That sounds similar to this one time when we tried to call my one friends friend(named John). So this is how it went down.
Us- Is John there? Angry Lady- YOU KNOW DAMNED WELL JOHN ISNT HERE! Us- ok... (confused)*hang up*

My teacher has a phone number that's 1 number away from the local autobody business. People call him ALL THE TIME asking about their cars; he just says they're ready and to come on and pick 'em up.

Okay, here's another telephone-related one: Saturday, the news editor at the paper where I work had 2 calls on her voice mail from someone complaining that there wasn't a photo in Saturday's paper of a drunk-driving accident that happened at midnight Friday.
1) News press time is 10:30 p.m. 2) We don't have a photographer (or reporter) who sits in the newsroom all night long waiting for something like that to happen. When our pages are completed and sent to the press, we're done and we go home. 3) Barbara (news editor) left her crystal ball at home, and didn't know there would be an accident at midnight Friday. 4) Barbara wasn't even on desk Friday night. The person should have called Bob, the editor, and ranted at him. 5) We tend to not take people like this very seriously. If you want people to do you favors, try not to start out by ranting at them. It makes them testy.
