Davey Jones in all his...um...glory...*ahem*...

Something tells me his designer read a lot of H.P. Lovecraft growing up.

How does he fight with that sword on his hip? He doensn't have a hand capable of holding it.

Or played D&D, and had a thing for Ilithids (which, of course, are themselves Lovecraft-inspired)

From the looks of the calcite and rotted flesh deposits on the sword, I don't think he does fight with it -- or at least hasn't drawn it in over a hundred years.

Well, it doesn't look like he's drawn it in a long time.

Probably it's a holdover from his days as a mortal man...assuming that Davey (like the crew of the Black Pearl) was not always a supernatural monster.

Why use a sword when you have a pincer?

Just to be clear: No one involved in the production has said that the character will fight with the decayed, grown-over sword seen in the art.

So those worried about how he'll use it can relax until such time as it's confirmed he will wield it.

(No remarks on his rugged good looks?) [Wink]

I like him. I think he's cute.
But then, I do read a lot of HP Lovecraft and related works.

Actually, it seems his right hand is normal except for his index finger which has become a really long tentacle. That means he could, in theory, use the sword.
