I'm totally telling you guys, you need to read this book. (I would have changed the title of the other thread and bumped it, but I lost the login for that screen name.)

I need to read some more of her science fiction. I've only read one story by her (Lathe of Heaven), but I really liked it.

Her earlier stuff is staggeringly good. There's a degree of misandrony in her more recent stuff that puts me off, but she's definitely one of the greats of the genre.

I think I have an anthology that has a short story by LeGuin. Does she write better short stories or novels? What's her best novel?

Yeah, misandry is the word I was going for. The other is of my own creation, I'm afraid.
In any case, Porter is right--I was describing what I perceive in LeGuin's later stuff as a hatred of men.
Jamie, both her novels and her short stories are excellent. I probably enjoy her short stories more, myself, but I wouldn't necessarily say that they're better; I'm generally partial to short stories.
My favorite collection of hers is The Compass Rose, and my favorite novel...well, that's harder. Left Hand of Darkness is probably her most famous novel, and is quite good. Her Earthsea series is generally highly regarded, and is also very well written. If I absoluetly had to pick a favorite, though, I'd probably go with Lathe of Heaven.*
*note that it's fairly unlikely that I'd give you the same answer to this question twice.

A pox you all! After finishing HP6, and trying in vain to get into a FREE Nelson Demille novel, I am now off to Barnes and Noble to pick up Jonathan Strange.

You miight want to wait for the Paperback, which should be out soon. Though it isn't THAT expensive, and it is totally worth it, IMHO.

Why did I think that this book was a LOT older than it is? I hadn't the slightest idea that it came out this year!!

Olivet, a pox on myself. They were out of the hard cover. (I, too, assumed it was older, Narnia). I ordered the paperback. September. So I got The Dragon Queen by Alice Borchardt.
