Beren, I am banned again, because you never did what the GOs told you to do!

You never changed the email address on the KweaSr account, even after I emailed you and posted about my FIRST ban, did you?

I am now banned until 2032.

Thanks.

Rob

Why would you say that? Now her own addictions are going to surface.

(sorry, Kwea, that stinks.)

Noemon, it is all a ploy on Jenni's part. She can pretend to be the ppor lost OGame widow, while she goes out and plays Keno til dawn.

She cannot fool me.

Seriously, ogame sucks.

the most fun I ever had was letting the alliance know that I was going to turn off all protection and watch the planets get farmed.

I feel a bit sorry for my poor colonists. But then, that's the breaks. When you leave the homeworld behind, you're just space fodder.

Sad about all those poor spacequanauts too. They served well, but I couldn't afford armor beyond level 5. They were just so many Shroedinger's cats to me.

Really...someday I'll write the makers of that game and suggest some ways to make it even marginally enjoyable if one prefers not to just play "kill the other guy" (or more likely "hide from the other guy.")

Stupid game.

Bob, Ogame is about killing the other guy. In fact, hiding from the other guy is a sure-fire way to lose.

Playing Ogame without seeking out and killing the other guy is like playing Monopoly without buying properties. You can hardly complain that a game isn't enjoyable when played in a way it's not intended to be played; you may as well say that Pictionary sucks when you play it with your eyes closed. [Smile]

That said, Ogame does suck, but for an entirely different reason. It sucks because fleetsaving is a 100% effective tactic, and because raiding chances can be calculated perfectly. This means that actual strategy can be traded for a spreadsheet, a combat calculator, and obsessively frequent play. (In this way, it's like most MMORPGs, actually.)

No, what sucks about Ogame is that unless you hover over your computer 24 hours a day you can't play fully. (That may be a slight exageration, but not much.) It's a choice between becoming obsessive and losing.

Edit: Stupid Tom, editing and saying what I already said. [Mad]

Tom, I can go one better, for reasons why ogame sucks....

I had two moons, and I couldn't time an attack on someone right. Not because I am an idiot (not that I am not, that just isn't the reason..: [Wink] ), but because of lag.

I had King Floyd, who by some weird twist of fate is now in my alliance [Big Grin] , time an attack on someone last night, and he launched so that his fleet would hit 5 seconds after the guys fleet landed. 4-5 seconds After the fleet arrived....but when his attack landed he was 2 seconds in front of the other fleet so the attack didn't count. [Frown]

I KNOW he launched it after the correct time, as I was the one who gave the command to launch, but because of server lag with the moon he missed, wasting over 50G deut in one fell swoop.

I personally had an attack times to within 10 seconds last week, and the same thing happened to me as well...even though I launched 10 seconds AFTER the correct time I got there first. This time I had both windows open at the same time, so there was no possible way for me to have misread the times...

I have found that the better you are the worse the time constraints become. You have more to lose, and the smaller targets don't work well for you at all.

Noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so sorry Kwea. [Frown]

I didn't get the email warning because I've stopped playing online games for a while and I've stopped checking that email address (which I use almost exclusively for online gaming purposes).

But I do remember you telling me on Hatrack about the first warning and I should've changed the address right away. I totally spaced out on you and I'm sorry.

I know you really enjoy that game and I hate being the one ruining an entire uni for you, especially since you're the one doing me the favor of trading accounts. [Frown]

Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?

I've sent the following letter. I hope this resolve things before you lose your fleet in that universe.

quote:
Dear Ogame Team,

I'm writing with regards to the ban on the accounts KweaSr and killeraces_com. I used to be killeraces_com and my friend, Kwea, was KweaSr.

On July 4, we emailed Stu Muzz and asked whether we could switch accounts. We were told that the switch would be acceptable. After the switch, I became KweaSr and he became killeraces_com.

I got really busy for a while and stopped checking into ogame. I also stopped checking this particular email address, which is the address I reserve for gaming purposes. Unfortunately, my friend Kwea (now killeraces_com) was banned because I forgot the change the email address in my new account.

We are NOT multiaccount users. If you check your logs you can verify that I haven't logged in for ages, and that we never conducted any suspicious trades or attacks on each other.

Kwea took over my account as a favor to me, so I would feel terrible if you punish him for my mistake. Feel free to ban me, but please lift the ban on Kwea's account.

Yours truly,

Beren

P.S. Your wife had nothing to do with it. Really. I swear.

P.P.S. In a way, I was fighting my own Ogame addiction, and I found that the only way to do that was to never think about it or even check in at teshi's. But as you can see, such complete avoidance is not the answer.

I was considering quitting, but I would have turned the account over to someone if I had.

Oh well, that is what I get for playing a German game, they never even bothered to contact me and let me know what was up....

They had said I was all set, that your account would be banned until you cleared it up, but then they didn't even bother doing what they said they would.

And then they blame me for it.

That sucks that they blame you for my mistake.

If only one of us has been playing, and we haven't traded or raided each other, what possible harm did we cause the game?

Are they seriously that rigid about their rules?

Well, once you went incative, and they released the first ban on you, I thought you HAD changed the address...

So I did raid you a couple of times...but only since you wnet inactive, so it isn't pushing, anyone can raid you when you are inactive. [Big Grin] At least I think I did... [Big Grin]

Still, I can prove that they said you would have been banned until the addy was changed, so this is still all their fault...and I think I raided you twice, two weeks ago, so it isn't that that is causing the problems, I think. [Big Grin]

Well, you're right. I guess what I should have said is that I found the game rather boring BECAUSE it was set up to do just the one thing and wasn't more interestingly designed.

It could be so much more interesting if there were ways to survive other than to be the biggest dog in the hunt and obsess about fleet saving and spending/hiding resources. Those aspects of the game made it less than enjoyable.

I did, in Uni-7, adopt the aggessive "win" strategy. Frankly, even succeeding in the game wasn't actually "fun."

I had to laugh at the comment about "Germans." It seems a peculiar mix of rigid rules and stomp the other players to dust. I wonder if there's something in the psychology of the people who made up the game.

I hope some of your fleet is still intact. [Frown]

I put a sticky on my monitor to remind myself to change the email address in 7 days.

Well, I am in fine sahpe...adn now in vacation mode...although since a mod put it there (at my request, incase I wasn't able to log on before I left on vacation to do it myself) it says I am in vacation mode until AT LEAST 3.1.1970. [Big Grin]

When banned, I guess if they relase you for not doing anything wrong you still ahve accumulated res, but since you were banned your fleets and planets were unattackable...

I came back to over 5 mill in res. [Big Grin]

And my entire fleet was safe....thank God!

Now...off to FL we go early, our flight leaves at 7:20 AM!

Night all!

How can Germans get video games so wrong and yet get board games so right?

The most famous German board game is Settlers of Catan. I'd go into a longer and more detailed explanation of what a typical German board game is, but heck, Wikipedia has already done it for me. Other popular ones are Carcassonne, Puerto rico, and Saint Petersburg.
