Interestin' stuff, ain't it?

What I love is how they didn't draw him as 'OMFG EVIL', as they did the emperor, but just as this kind of world-weary man who had completely lost his soul.

I don't know about you, but the depiction of the chirpy blue fairy turned into this kind of depleted depository of blue magic--the emotionless, nonchalant way he turned to her to expose her (still alive!) in the cabinet to Boy Blue--that was really the capper for me.

Guesses on how Boy Blue will get out of this? He's obviously got some plan in mind. Willingham has set him up as some kind of ur-James Bond, so it's almost a foregone conclusion that he's not just going to let Gepetto kill him right after he destroys the Witching Cloak.

He's talking about the wonderful comic Fables, and specifically about the rather revelatory issue that came out two weeks ago. [Smile]

The only corrupted fairy tales I've read was Ludwig Revolution. THAT was some scary stuff. I think you can read it on Jahannam.net
Also, there is that new manga, "Bizenghast" that seems really appealing to me. I'm planning on buying it since the creators ideas are really twisting and morbid in a good fairy tale kind of way.

Hey, Blackberry Witch plays on the Pinocchio > Gepetto > Golem > Blood Magic theme. . .

It comes out in two weeks!

I recently saw a cheap kids cartoon version of pinnochio. It made me see Gepetto as a very sad and sick old man.

1) He plays with anatomically correct wooden dolls of little boys.

2) His foundest wish is to have a real boy to play with on his own.

3) It is a Fey that casts the spell that turns the boy to semi-life, and we all know what type of perverted beings they are.

4) The concience (aka Jimminy Crickette) in the original story lasted only a few seconds before Pinochio stomped on him.

I could go on, but--Gepetto as evil--yep figured that all out.

"Revelatory". Heh. When Fabletown was overrun by wooden soldiers, it wasn't obvious to you that Geppeto was the Adversary? Sheesh.

The only thing revelatory about the issue was how it happened. And I think it was an incredible illustration of how evil really happens. Not by some giant OMFG monster taking over, but by little people giving away their freedom a nibble at a time.

Actually, no. I just figured he'd been pressed into service by the Adversary, not least because it looked like he'd been too busy making wooden soldiers to rule anything. [Smile] I figured it out the instant we met the decoy, though.

What I am wondering is exactly how many are in Gepetto's cabal, that actually know that he's making the royalty that sits in those thrones. We know the Snow Queen does, but who else? Since the cabal is so small, whoever defeats them then holds their power....
