A little while back, I got a 80G external HD the size of a calculator. I love it.

Here is what I have done. I started using portable applications. I have on XMPlay and a different folder with a bunch of my music. I have created several play lists (TripHop, Funk, Rock, Mellow, et cetera). I can now take my music wherever I go. Since it is portable, I don't need to use the host computer's media player. XMPlay lets you either play random or shuffle the list. I love it. Makes my after hours work fly.

Speaking of portable applications, I also copied Portable Firefox and Portable Tunderbird. I can now get my emails wherever I am surfing, and I have firefox (customized how I like it) on any computer hooked to the Internet.

I also have portable OpenOffice, Sunbird, PDF reader, NVU, and EssentialPIM--but I must admit I really haven't used those applications.

I just discovered Grouper, and I wonder if anyone on Hatrack has used it. I like the idea of having a private P2P between just me and trusted friends. I have family and friends who like to share files that are too large to email, and this seems like a good solution.

Are there any other neat-o apps anyone on Hatrack just loves?

Two really simple ones that I've used a lot:

Whitaker's WORDS, a Latin-English dictionary program that also parses the words.
The Graph Paper Printer, which lets you create and customise any sort of graph paper you need: linear and non-linear scales, musical notation paper, lego paper (not entirely sure what that is but it sounds really cool), mercator paper, anything.
