The Mayor of NO is apparently going to give her an helecopter ride to see the damage. Now, this is truly absurd. Does the mayor really need to give her a tour??? This smells like photo-op to me. Oprah loves to have people see how generous she can be, and it makes me ill. If she was really concerned she would just write a check. The country does not need to be educated about how bad this is, we already know. This is not like the famine in Niger or the AIDS epidemic in South Africa that she needs to call our attention to the problem. If she has a special show on this and gets to have her Iron Eyes Cody moment on the screen I will SCREAM!
I hope it is not true.

I think NOLA and the other cities need relief more than they need celebrities right now. Still, if Oprah can somehow help bring in that relief through her show and elsewhere, more power to 'em.

I won't. Because I'll be completely oblivious to whatever she does on her show, as always.
I'd guess she's probably cutting a big check to go along with the tour, or at least I'd hope so. If she draws some more attention to it and gets donations out of whatever cross-section of her audience wouldn't have donated otherwise, fantastic.

Yep, a little. She has already donated more than most to all sorts of charities, and while it helps her show keep one thing in mind...
She was already #1 before she started doing all of that. She is one of the most influential people in the world, just ask anyone in the publishing business....having a book on her reading club list makes it a best seller overnight, and can make or break an authors career.
If she can help raise more money than she herself would have donated, good for her.

Kwea has some good points, but I don't see why she can't help raise money without a guided tour. seems like the mayor should be doing something else besides playing tour guide and that helicopter could be ferrying supplies or people rather than escorting her.
