I've been thinking of getting some friends together for a Louisiana feast. [Smile]

And of course, we all know what music we'd listen to! [Big Grin]

And I'm singing with my dad and some friends at a street festival in Oct. We are doing all traditional, sing-along stuff, but we've added one that's not part of our usual repertoire in honor of the people of New Orleans-- "When the Saints Go Marchin' In."

I love Cajun music, and I loved hearing the kids play it in the Cajun Academy at Rhytym and Roots Fest. There were so many good bands there!

KQ, if you have your party, play Keith Frank. The Frank family is all from the New Orleans area.

Also, there is a fund set up specifically for NO area musicians, because so many of them lost their studios, and so many of them lost the venues they perform in and the audiences they perform to.

"KEUN, in the town of Eunice Country, in Bayou country, champions Country Cajun and Zydeco music on the airwaves. DJ "Big Ed" Poullard answers callers to his show in English and French."

I am pretty sure this is the guy we saw at a workshop at the festival. Myr was with me. It was fascinating, because he said he would get all kinds of hate calls from Zydeco purists, because he played Cajun music as well as Zydeco. "Get that white sh** off the air" they would say, and some even threatened him.

His point was that the music was so close, it was much cooler to bring it together than to divide it.

Growing up in the heart of Cajun Country and constantly having zydeco and other local genres of music hammered into my ears has given me a bitter hatred of it. That stuff is enough to send me screaming and running for cover.

I appreciate it for what it is, but for the love of God, don't ever make me listen to it. I've had enough.

Aww, how sad! One of my fondest childhood memories is Cajun music and zydeco at the Live Oaks music festival in central CA. Another is seeing Beau Soleil and then later the Savoy-Ducet Cajun Band at McCabe's in Santa Monica. Not to mention Alligator Stomp in the car and the Cajun Christmas tape every Christmas!
