quote:
Even Californians have learned from earthquakes by changing their building methods so that new buildings do a good job of riding out earthquakes.

Of course, this doesn't mean Californians are smart.

So, who are the Californian hatrackers again? I find this statement funny.

Even the idea of making a statement that doubts the intelligence of such a macro group of people is just rediculous.

California has a huge population, some are brilliant, some are stupid, JUST LIKE ANYWHERE ELSE.

If for some reason, we appear "stupid" it's most likely because of politicians, law/policy makers, etc... making unwise decisions or doing their dirty work, even if the voters oppose it. (Recent Exception: yeah to Schwarzeneggar for his AB 849 veto.)

Of course we want what's best for our state, but sometimes a powerful micro group gives the macro group (the entire population of California) it's image as perceived by others.

I'm not stupid. I've been officially certified "not stupid" several times. So there. [Razz]

OSC has a number of friends -- not to mention a daughter -- in CA. I expect he was just being cute/clever/something.

*shrug* So?

<---- Didn't know you could do anything, but ride out an earthquake. The ground doesn't really give you a choice.

You can prepare by bolting down heavy furniture, putting locks on cabinets, and not putting pictures and things over your bed (not to mention not putting your bed next to a window.) Also, knowing what to do and not to do (do NOT go to a doorway!) We learn it in elementary school out here.

It just means we're stubborn. [Smile]

I don't think we're not smart; I just think that the sun is so sunny and the breeze is so breezy here that we tend to be mellow and chill, which could be misinterpreted as being stupid.

I love California. I can wear a tank top during winter [Smile] !
