I thought I had noticed something during the last few days. With rigorous testing (thanks for your help, quid! ) I have concluded that my hypothesis was correct: deleting the last post(s) in a thread now instantly moves it back down the thread list to its former slot.
Probably happened with the forum upgrade, but I didn't notice until now.
I haven't decided if this is a good thing or a bad thing . . .

There was a forum upgrade? When did that happen? Oh, you mean when the forum was down for a day or so back, um, a long time ago. Okay. Got it.
Um, you're welcome for the help. That is, if you're not going to turn around and strangle me. I had fun.

Actually, now that you mention it, I think someone said that a few days after the upgrade. I never tested it though.

Quid, nah. You let it go long enough that I was slightly frustrated, but not so long that serious thoughts of violence (at least, not ones that persisted once you deleted your posts ) were an issue.
Val, figures that someone else noticed it immediately and I missed it for months.

Hmm, the software must use the timestamp on the last post to order the threads.
One thing I noticed was that if the person who wrote the last post edited it while I was replying, my post would go to a different thread. At least I think that was the cause; I haven't tested it.

Hey rivka -- how common a name is rivka? On a farming list that I read, there's a woman named Rivka who farms in NY state. [/random]

Within Jewish (particularly Orthodox) circles, it is one of the ten most common names. (It's the Hebrew for Rebbecca.) In the populace at large, not so common.
