... and yet, this movie looks worse. Richard Kind was the only good thing about the broadway show, and he seems better in the role than Nathan Lane. (Hard to believe as that may seem, Kind was pretty electric on stage.)

The musical is fabulous! I was lucky enough to see the original cast at the pre-Broadway run in Chicago. LOVED IT! Sadly, I have not yet seen the original movie, but it's on my Blockbuster list.
I'm so glad the musical movie has mostly the original cast, but I'm still a bit disappointed that Cady Huffman (the original Ulla) isn't in it. Uma definitely looks the part, but Cady has such an awesome voice. Hopefully Uma can sing.
I kinda think the reality of the new film might take away from the effectiveness of the stage show - for example, I was very disappointed to see real pigeons instead of mechanical ones in the trailer, but really, what else would a movie use?
Oh, and when you go see it, pay attention to the lead stormtrooper singing "Springtime for Hitler" - he's played by John Barrowman, who's one of my all-time favorite stage actors.

Just added the original to my Netflix list... I wish I'd gotten to see it on stage when it was here. Mom wanted to go too but we just didn't have the money available.

The only reason I saw it was because my whole theatre dept saw it as a class requirement - a field trip, if you will. Every semester the dept sees 3 professional shows, and that was one of them. Otherwise, I'd still be wishing.
