Okay, so I need some technical help. I've been trying forever to set up my TV so that it has a remote. I've been able to do this for the DVD player in my room, but unfortunately nothing has been working for the TV/VCR. So I was wondering if maybe you could help me.

I have a Panasonic PV-C1351W 13" TV/VCR player and I have a Philips Universal Digital DVD remote. I've used all the codes I found in the little booklet that came with the remote, but nothing seems to be working. Of course, the TV/VCR is from 2001, so this might have something to do with it. Do I have any chance of making this work, or am I stuck with a TV without a remote. Thanks for helping!

Do you not have ANY remote for the TV? If so, even a learning remote won't help you.

<---- Is confused. What do you mean, ANY remote? I have A remote, and I've tried it with another remote as well, but it still doesn't work.

I think Tom's point is that if the TV didn't come with a remote in the first place, it won't have the hardware receiver to accept a signal from a remote control.

Oh, it did come with a remote, but this was my brother's tv before mine, and he must of lost it in college. So I no longer have it. So, I think it does have the capability to utilise remotes.

Use the I-don't-have-the-code method the manual presumably gave you. Something like this:
quote:
If your component does not respond to the
remote control after trying all codes listed for
your brand, or if your brand is not listed at all,
try searching for your code using Auto Scan.
For example, to search for a code for a TV:
1. On the remote control, press TV once.

2. Press and hold SET until the red light blinks twice, then release SET.

3. Aim the remote control at the TV and press SCAN. The red light will blink twice.

4. Continue aiming the remote control at the TV (which may take up to 5 minutes) until it turns off. [With some models (I couldn't find the manual for your specific model), you have to keep pressing the button repeatedly.]

Immediately press any key except VOL+, VOL–, EXIT, SCAN, or SET.

5. To lock in the code and exit Auto Scan, press and release SET the red light will blink twice.

Or look here.

I also have another question. If I have a TV/VCR, and I want to program the remote, do I just press the TV button? There's nothing to indicate that I want to program both. And if I press both of them, the light just goes off.

It depends on the remote. Do you have the manual? Or can you tell me exactly what its model number is?

O_o Responsible people keep a file of manuals for all current appliances.

I can usually find the manual to most things if I dig around a bit . . .

Uh, this warrants three exclamation points how?

P.S. Responsible people keep current manuals. Hoarders keep everything so they can't find the documentation for current things. [Blushing]

I have a solution that might work, but it is probably not what you are looking for.

Just get up and change the channel.
