So, about 5 hours after coming back home from the dentist the gas/painkiller wore off.....

and it hurt like a massive steel rod being forced up into my teeth and into the gums.

So... Its been a week and.... still hurts...

In the mornings it hurt not so bad (or none at all) but in the afternoon its starts to ache like a slightly smaller pole being forced up my teeth.

Is this normal? its been a week, since I got the 5 cavities filled.

That is NOT normal. Call the dentist that did the work and report the pain. You need a follow up appointment right away.

I heard that eating lots of raw shellfish is helpful for bad teeth.

But I don't believe it.

What Tante said..

I'm so sorry about your pain. I HATE it when my teeth hurt.. most of my summer consisted of my fillings hurting. [Mad] Then my dentist was nice enough to put medicine in the fillings. That helped a lot!

As far as I am aware, normal fillings shouldn't hurt at all. I have several and they've never been painful in the least. Call your dentist!

try organ meats.

and microclusters.

Definitely not normal to have that much pain. You may be forming an absess. Incredibly painful and hard to treat.

Also, you might need a root canal.

Go get checked!

You should never wait this long. [Eek!]

I'd call the dentist. I've never had pain that long after a filling, but my mom did, and it turned out the dentist had done it wrong and hit a nerve! [Eek!] My mom had to have surgery, and he mucked that up. So she changed dentists and had to have a bridge put in.

Yikes! [Eek!] Yeah, definitely call the dentist and make an appointment ASAP! Don't just take painkillers - they'll just mask the problem instead of fixing it, and it could get even worse later. And if it turns out you do need a root canal, have them give you LOTS of nitrous. Then it'll almost be fun. [Wink]

Treason, some people are prone to get a lot of cavities. It's genetic. I have a friend whose little brother was always getting cavities, and they finally figured out it wasn't anything he was doing or not doing-- just bad genes.

I must have great genes. I have only had one cavity my whole life! Lucky me, except it was a root canal. [ROFL]

I get a lot of cavities too. I brush well, I'm just not big on flossing. All of my cavities are between my teeth.

I used to get really bad tooth pains and wake up in the middle of the night with my mouth hurting really bad.

When I went to the dentist, it turned out that I didn't have cavities, that my pain came from me grinding my teeth while i slept. The cure? Reduce stress. :/
Also, they recommended an evening mouth gaurd I couldn't afford, but being aware of it, I was able to control my stress somewhat, and that helped.

Let us know if they fixed you.

Some people have a condition that makes the enamel soft too, making it really easy to develop tooth problems.

My mother's wisdom teeth were enamel only (two of them anyway). She brushed holes in them with her toothbrush because there was no substance and they had to be extracted. *shudders*

Honestly, I found normal fillings to be worse than my root canals. Of course, that's probably since I was much older when I had to have root canals. That said, having root canals done isn't too bad if the dentist knows what he is doing.

but still doesn't explain why my teeth problems appear to be nocturnal.

And, I'm not entirely sure it is my teeth, I have troubles pinpointing exactly where the pain is and sometimes feels like its in my gums where the root of the teeth would be.

However, when I drink or eat anything the teeth that had fillings just done hurt as soon as a substance touches them.

Go to the dentist. He/She can "root" out what is or at least what is not the problem.

Stress during the day can add to the pain, or the sinuses may add to it, or holding stress in the jaw line and grinding teeth.

There are a lot of things that go on in your face. Let the dentist see if there are any easy answers before you worry about the difficult ones.
