You get a better tax return if you depreciate him.

yup, I bought it! I've been wanting to check out Writers of the Future since May, but then it fell to the back of my to do list. When I saw you post that the new one was out, I went ahead and ordered it. I got to check out WotF AND read a story by a Hatracker. Awesomeness!

*****SPOILERS******
I greatly enjoyed your story from beginning to end so it's hard to pick out specific favorite parts. My favorite line was, "That's not freedom. That's loneliness." The positioning of that statement was so masterful that I put the book down for a moment to take in the magnitude of it. [Smile] I really enjoyed the redemption theme at the end. The way you built up Nina's character was fantastic. I completely felt her desperation and then her guilt. When they go to Jan Karl's house at the end I loved that Brujo was the one that grabbed her and forced her to come inside. It seemed so fitting. You had several gestures like that that were wonderfully telling. Like when Nina tells Brujo to get out of the car, but she refuses to look at him. Also when they're in the car driving Asher back and Nina tries to put her hand near Steve's, and he moves his hand to scratch his face. This story was truly wonderful. [Smile]

Thanks so much, Amanecer!

***********SPOILERS***************

>>I really enjoyed the redemption theme at the end.

Good! One of the things that I wonder about the story is if Nina truly redeems herself. [Smile] I plan to explore the question further in the novelization.

To touch on it here, she returns Asher to Jan Karl, which is redemptive; additionally, she withstands the temptation to murder Jan Karl. BUT she uses the magic she takes from Jan Karl to create another homunculus, and one named very portentously. . .

Novelization? Cool.

Okay -- hurry up and get your author's Web site put together so you can update us on stuff like this.
